I don't really like going to the gym. Visits are timed around Megan being at home, as it gets me out of the house. So I went today, and it seemed to last forever, but when I came out the radio had a Christmas song on. For a horrible moment I thought I'd been on the exercise bike for a lot longer than I thought I had!
I miss Scotland, though. I also very much miss independence, and working for a company that isn't evil. Hell, I'd probably still take evil if I wasn't living in Ormskirk. There are now three bitter female graduates in the office so the bitching is at an all time high as we all pass on job tips whilst also quietly keeping any decent leads to ourselves. Good times.
Today is a strange day in politics. Firstly - agreed shared defences between UK and France. I assumed that one thing we could probably trust a Conservative government to do would be not to sell us out to The Ancient Enemy. Sharing anything else, fine, and I am actually rather pro-EU but it's France. FRANCE. THEY TALK FUNNY OVER THERE YOU KNOW.
Joking aside, it makes sense. I know it does. I don't necessarily think we have matching defence policy ideas, but there we are. It's better than matching up the Americans right now, to be fair; I'm watching the midterm elections warily because holy crap if I thought our politicians were bad at least they are mostly sane.
Finally, I do not agree with certain prisoners getting the vote. If your prison terms means that you will be living in society during any expected point of the government's life, then yes, you should vote. If your prison term is longer than a governmental term, no. I have a quiet but resolute belief in the concept of the social contract. Human rights are universal for all prisoners and prison should be a last resort and concentrate on rehabiliation, but there are certain prsioners who have said no to their rights in society. They lose freedom for a reason. This is my opinion. As I said, I am pro-EU and therefore I am probably wrong and actually I'd really like to hear the flipside of the argument because I've never heard it before. I'm willing to be proved wrong, but at the moment I'm unhappy with it.
