Oct. 21st, 2003 03:13 pmWelcome to Tuesday, good people. Today has not yet been a Bad Day, which is a Good Thing.
Woke up deliciously late- 11.20. Heaven! My morning consisted of doing buggar all, which was also Quite Nice, and I finished off Chocolate Hollow Bunnies Of The Apcolypse. Dude. Strange, strange, strange book, but completely wonderful. The ending was completely and utterly brilliant- a wonderful take on George Bush. (No spoilers, though.) Go and read it, all of you. Please?
Speaking of books, I also went into Ormskirk after finishing aforementioned book to return my seriously overdue books. I then decided to buggar off into WH Smith, since I had a voucher from my birthday and I fancied nabbing a book, possibly inspired by
loneraven's epiphany into Discworld. So, off I toddle and I see a Brand Spanking New Discworld book. Still in hardback, unfortunately, but looks quite interesting and I will invest in as soon as it comes out in paperback. No, it was other Discworld books I was after- I wasn't sure which onces I hadn't read, but I wanted one of the older ones. Or Wee Free Men. Either were good.
So, I grab a book at random, and review down the Discworld list inside it. But there's a problem...
Apart from Wee Free Men, Feet Of Clay, and the new one (curses! Can't remember title!) I seem to have read them all. And now I've actually bought Feet Of Clay. It's a bit worrying when you reach the end of the list like that. Evidently, I will soon be investing in Science of Discworld and Maurice and his Amazing Educated Rodents. Oh well.
BUT. More fannish ramblings ahoy! I haven't actually mentioned that American Gothic has now finished in a very disturbing way, although Merlyn is dead (again), which is a Good Thing. But they never explained it, you know? Lucas probably isn't a fallen angel, despite my thoughts on it- they kept on talking about the Buck family.
So, while in WH Smith, I saw a book. An actual American Gothic book, which claims to explain it all. Oh, the pain and torture as my fandoms battled it out for my loyaty (and book voucher). In the end though, Discworld won on the basis that a quick flick through the American Gothic revealed some quite bad writing. And Caleb just doesn't have the same charm when he's not being played by the superb Lucas Black. (Not Buck. It's confusing, I know.) So I didn't buy it. But I will. Probably.
Ho hum.
Also done my media studies talk thingie, so I just need to do the exam paper for that and my English homework. But I need to email Susie about the English, since I don't actually know what it is I have to do. Oops.
And new Evo episode on at four! YAY!
Now, about Orpheus last night...
Well, that was weird.
Some nice team interaction, and I loved the gym scene if only for the Signs bitching. ("They travel half way across the galaxy, they're allergic to water, and they pick this planet?") Jack was quite groovy in it, and there was some brilliant Jack/Daniel interaction, and it was nice seeing Teal'c have a bit of time. But really. Vision!Daniel? Ugh.
What did make me hysterically laugh was the theory that Mum came up during the ad break though:
Mum: So Jaffa basically aren't allowed kek, right?
Colleen: More or less.
Mum: So, secretly, Jaffa are all desended from Scousers, and what Teal'c doesn't want to confess to is that kek is really pants, so he makes up that it's weakness. And ever since joining the SGC, he's worn trousers, the forbidden Jaffa thingie. Which is why all Jaffa wear those little skirt thingies!
My mother may be a genius, secretly.
That's your lot. I'll go now.
