Well, I didn't get my LOTR dream. Instead, had strange and somewhat disturbing dream about taking the wrong bus to college, but got me there anyway. And they told me off. And I walked home. And they told me off about that too.

Of all the things to get paranoid about, I'm worried about missing the bus. This is maybe a reasonable worry, since I have never taken a bus to school before. Never had the need to. When we lived in the old house I could walk to primary school alone at age 7, because Mum could stand at the end of our road and watch me go the whole way without moving. When we moved to our current house, I had to walk with parents again, but the point was I was walking. I've walked to St Bedes nearly every day, except for the odd day when we have torrential rain and June/Maria/Phillipa/Me could bribe a lift of a parent.

(To make this clear, Philippa used to live down our road. Then she moved, and June moved into the exact same house. I didn't have to learn a new telephone number or anything, marvellous! Maria I also used to walk to school with. This was Before, of course.)

And now I have to get the bus. A bus that takes 45 minutes, no less, and a 15 minute walk to get the bus. Wibble.

Anyway, woke up at 1.15pm. Shrieked in genuine horror "I have to wake up at 7 tomorrow! How the hell will I sleep! Ack!" and wandered downstairs.

On the plus side, I have an interview at Homebase for cashier work. Not quite what I fancied doing, but the pays the same. So, Tuesday at 11am, I am going in to discuss hours. Wonderful. I must remind myself that I need the money for SG6. I really do, since I have about a fiver left in the whole wide world... eeeep.

Enough of my ramblings- I'm off to read MSTs. They're cruel, and they make me laugh. It's all good!

Blame [livejournal.com profile] mettanna for this post- she reminded me!

Mum is a long-suffering parent. While Dad actually enjoys sci-fi, Mum is rarely a fan. But she tries. She cames to SG5. She actaully watches and picks up information about many, many of my fandoms, and is a noted S/J shipper (boohiss!). She even gave Farscape a good go before giving up. (Understandable, considering she missed most of S3 and made a valient attempt to understand S4.) She put me into the American Gothic fandom in the first place. She reads Harry Potter, and actually really enjoys the films. (The only films we go to see as a family.) She even has a certain knowledge of X-Men, gleaned from the cartoons from when I was little. ("Oh! Gambit! I remember him, the one with the cards!")

Somewhere in the middle of all of this, she missed LOTR completely. Now, some of it she does know. She knows that Elijah Wood played Frodo, although she wouldn't be able to identify him. She knows that Treebeard is an Ent and that Legolas is an Elf, due to extended arguments about the characters between me and Dad. And that really is it. I don't know how she's managed it, with one fully obsessed teenager, one non-obsessive who has a secret love of the films but doesn't want to be like her geeky sister teenager and a husband who is also a full-blown book obsessive.

Now, why am I telling you all of this?

Last night, a film called Daylight was on. I know nothing about the film, since I was online when it started. I do know it is a disaster film, because that's Mum's genre. (That, and Patrick Swayze films. Shudder.) So, when I toddle offline, I decide to have a bowl of cornflakes and watch the end of the film. Cue my shrieking. "THATS VIGGO MORTENSON!"

Mum is understandably confused, especially since the actor in question was hanging from a dark pipe and you could only see a very small protion of his face.

"Colleen, who's that?"
"Viggo Mortenson!"
"Who?"

Was shocked. You say the words "Richard Dean Anderson" "Ben Browder" or even "Gigi Edgley" and she knows who it is.

"Mum, that's Aragorn!"
"Who?"

Genuine shock.

"Strider! Thorongil! Estel! Manly King of Men!"
"Who?"

So, I dive upostairs for a DVD to show Mum the picture and to prove that actually, yes, that actor is Viggo Mortenson. Show Mum the DVD.

"No, I've still never seen him before. And he doesn't look like that in the film. How do you know?"
"He's in all the interviews, I've seen pictures... That's him!"

Meanwhile, onscreen, Viggo Mortenson's character dies, as does our conversation. I think I'm going to have to physcially sit Mum down to watch LOTR at some point. Possibly tie her to a chair to do it, if I have to.

Yes, I'm really, really bored. Can you tell?

Other scary thing last night was watching an advert for Emmerdale. Okay, not scary in itself. (Well, maybe.) It was about the whole Chris/Charity/Cain love triangle. Yes, in a soap about farming. What I couldn't understand as to why the hell Placebo's Pure Morning was being used as the backing music. Anyone know why, pray tell?

Mmmmm. I'm hungry. What to eat... what to eat...
