I liked Interview With The Vampire last night. I really did. It was better than the book, which is saying a lot coming from me. I felt that Lestat was an absolutely dascinating character, I thought that the whole concept was fascinating if a little melodramatic, and even more importantly, it was absolutely full of Boy!Touching and even Boy!Kissing between vampires who were, frankly enough, pretty for lack of a better term. Now whilst this might appeal to certain others rather than myself, there were also pretty female vampires (Madeleine was yummy) I still really enjoy a good slashy piece!
I remember reading somewhere that Anne Rice fanfiction wasn't on The Pit Of Voles which was fair enough. However, reading an article on exactly why it's banned has made me really annoyed.
On April 7, 2000 Anne Rice had the following message to say on her webpage:
"I do not allow fan fiction.
The characters are copyrighted. It upsets me terribly to even think about fan fiction with my characters. I advise my readers to write your own original stories with your own characters.
It is absolutely essential that you respect my wishes."
This statement was then followed up by attacks on Anne Rice fanfic authors. The attacks consisted of, amongst other things, e-mailed threats regarding not only the writing of fanfiction but any writing that any fanfic author attempted to engage in (regardless of who owned the copyright), attacks on businesses that the fanfic authors owned and weeks of harassing personal letters sent to fanfic author's e-mail addresses and guestbooks. Personal information about fanfic authors was also dug up by Anne Rice employees and used as part of the harassment. Suffice it to say, Anne Rice made her displeasure clear.
Christ. Now, when you consider that J.K Rowling, who's characters are mutilated, bloodied and ruined on an hourly basis by dreadful authors, and still supports fic you have to wonder what Anne Rice is on. Fanfic was still an early days type of thing when she wrote her little melodramatic Angst!Fest, so it was of quite good quality.
Gah. The bitch. I wanted angsty, sexy, vampire fic. But noooooo.
Anyway. Enough of my snarky rant.
I can lie in tomorrow! *bounces* Have to go into college to edit film, but hurrah, it's parents consultation days. Mum and Dad went tonight, and dragged me along as a tour guide. I also got to sit in my Media Studies and Politics ones- I ent to the loo just as Dave called for history and I hovered for my English.
I feel really quite proud of myself. I always knew that I was damn good at what I was good at it (humanties, I love thee) but I didn't realise I was that good...

All teachers said I was a pleasure to teach, and I may love my politics teacher. I really do. Huzzah for Elaine!
Anyway. I need to go and get something to eat, and then I'm going to bed. I can lie in. Until 11.00. Going to Manchester with Susie, Lara et al to see Love Actually on Friday, though. Have to go to Parbold to catch train. Curse my far away college-y peoples!
