"History is a very sexy subject."
Jan. 7th, 2004 08:10 pmI haven't watched Grace yet, but I have seen, now, TWO very delighted sounding people. These people are
doddlebot and
mettanna. These people are shippers. I do not wish to see Grace, anymore. (Don'ttellmedon'ttellme I'll find out LATER, okay?) Although I do, because all the cut tags are taunting me. Eeevil. I will watch it later. Honest.
Today has been a day of nothingness, although on the plus side I didn't fall asleep on the bus. It seems to be a general thing that no one's body clock will adjust, and I'm another one. I can't sleep at night. It's freaking weird. I also spend my day wanting to die, and to make it much worse I have tomorrow first lesson off. I can't sleep during this. I actually have to go in on time, because no one will give me a lift. Life is cruel. So are parents, at times.
But yeah. I just went to lessons. As you do. English was dull beyond reason. I'm not sure why - it just was. History was Charles I, who is much more fun than James. Even though he wasn't. (Don't ask. I'll lecture you.) And then we had Media Studies, which had a few, shining moments. Claudine decided that someone had to write the board. We all stared resolutely at the table, and I was made to do it. *wails* Helen protested, though. "I can't read her hand writing! I practically needed her to type it up so I could read it!" However, I was launched up to the board and made to write. Badly. Liz and I got into a feminist LOTR argument, which I think baffled most of the class.
"Eowyn's the exception to the rule, because she's a strong character who goes off a fights because she wants to be a boy..."
"Ah, but could be it be that it's negative towards women? After all, she gets given the duty of looking after her fairly defenceless people, but then she abandons them to do something that she's forbidden to do..."
The class was confused. I suspect Claudine may have been, too.
We then ate lunch, watched a film called 'Open Your Eyes' which was... strange. (Like Vanilla Sky, but with Penelope Cruz. No... wait a minute...) And then I went to politics. Which was pressure groups. Ergo, it was dull. I thought that pressure groups would be really... interesting. Protests! Strikes! People Vs State! Instead, it's three lessons worth of the descriptions of the different types and an interesting subverting of the lesson in a debate about animal liberation.
And now I'm bored again. I have ficcy goodness, which is, strangely enough, Harry Potter fic that it worth reading (by Cassandra Claire. Yes, the Original Pervy Hobbit Fancier) which is keeping me entertained because it has many lines I need to steal. I think I'm justified to claim this as my own.
"History is a very sexy subject."
"Which is why Professor Binns is just hell on wheels with the ladies down at the Three Broomsticks."
I like history, but it does seem to be for blokes with either far too much or far too little hair. I have no idea what I'd do with a degree in it, anyway, let alone the PhD I've set my beady eyes on. Hmmm. I'm not going to angst about my future. I'm not. I'm going to start looking on the UCAS site in February, which suddenly seems really sudden.
Now I want a cup of tea. Hell, it can hardly fuck up my body clock anymore...
... I sound quite morose in the above post. I'm unsure why. Perhaps it's the 'one a day' thing, taking away my usual compulsive randomness.
Hmmm.
