just give me something to hold on to
Apr. 21st, 2006 12:07 amToday has also been For The Win. This is a very good thing and distracts me from the various sucky things in my existence, such as the Giant Pile Of Essays which are currently making me want to hide in the corner, and the fact that it is That Time Of The Month (let's be honest; I have no pain from it anymore, at least I know when I'm facing it this time, but people, I'm still bleeding. It's not fun) and all that kind of fun.
Anyway.
Thursday are normally very bad days for me. I have three lectures and two tutorials and one hour off in the middle, and I had another hour of a Wyrd Sisters reheasal so today was exhausting, but I couldn't look forward to coming home and relaxing. Oh, no. In my first lecture, I realised that today was the night I was meant to go and see a friend's play.
Erk.
So, I ran around all day, bought tickets in my hour off, and then proceeded to go to the rehearsal. Actually, it was good, and I have managed to nab the two cameos I wanted. One of them is a peasant part and it makes me incredibly happy ("I know my rights!") and the other is the one I've been ghosting for a while. The director announced today that it would be going to someone else, and the Duchess flailed.
"But it'll be weird without Colleen! She's good at it!"
And then the Director shrugged. "Well, the bloke I was going to give it to hasn't turned up. Do you want it?"
It is wrong the things I will respond 'hell yeah!' too. So I have two bits in it and very happy I am with them too. However, I am also continuing my grand theatrical tradition of playing men. This, maybe, should tell me something, but I am choosing to ignore that and dancing about because I get to be the Pratchettian one. *dances*
Came home, got changed, and dived out to see The Unusual Suspects with Katie. You won;t have ever heard of this play unless you live around here, or possibly unless you know Alex Howarth. Alex was in my tutorials last semster, plays The Fool is Wyrd Sisters, went to KGV in the year above me, apparently, and is generally A Dude. He also wrote and directed this very, very odd musical. The plot, such as it is, is basically something about a murder and a high school prom, and it's very, very silly. There was full frontal male nudity for one delightful scene involving a song and dance routine, someone dancing around as a glitter ball, and basically it was totally cracked out. I think a character summed it up best with a sudden "What the fuck have I been smoking?"
So much fun, though. I laughed a lot and was very impressed and also slightly dazed afterward. Still, though, a justifiable reason not to do my essays.
Also, all the money is officially sorted out now and just needs to be paid to various people (not me! I am in credit again!) so I have money to pay my car tax, and in a fit of motivation, I've written the introduction to the first bit of the first essay. I reckon I might be able to finish it tomorrow if I really work, which gives me a straight run of three days to do the tricky one and then bash out a half-decent Russian one. Busy, busy, but doable busy, I think. Also, I find the topic of this essay (English politics in the Long Eighteenth Century) really fascinating, which helps a bit, I think.
But now, bed. I'm so tired...
