That was quite possibly one of the best birthdays I'd had in a good long time.
To explain why this is so, I will begin just after my last post, wherein I was happy that Simon had come and met me from work, and happy that Katie was getting in soon, and happy that I had a DALEK CARD OMFG.
All in all, life was good!
The thing is, though, it actually stayed good. It really, really did. Simon and I caught a train to Liverpool to pick up Katie, and it was wonderful to see her again. I forgot how much we laugh when we're together, especially when I get given a present of Nunzilla. She winds up and walks towards you, spitting sparks from her mouth. NO REALLY. It made me cry with laughter, although slightly scary to play with on the train. We got into my house a little later than expected, and I cooked using the logic of "BUT I AM HUNGRY NOW". I miss student cooking.
This was followed by diving upstairs and putting on my corset. If I say so myself, I lookd damn fine, even if it was accompanied by Simon laughing outside of my bedroom door because of the way Katie and I were shouting "HEAVE!" and "I CAN TAKE IT! TIGHTER!"
Trust me, the effect was well worth the fact I couldn't actively sit down properly for a while.
The first stop was the Buck, where I felt horrendously self-conscious. Jav was the first to turn up and I even bought a round, feeling generous for a change. One drink in, and Simon put another in front of me and dropped a penny in it. "I'm not playing by Cambridge rules," I warned him, but drank it anyway.
Given that I am a lightweight, everything was ever so funny after that point onwards. Next step was the us, after Jess, Lucy and Day turned up, and we all sat around and talked and bothered each other. This was also about the point I felt the first seam on my corset begin to go.
Oh dear.
Anyway, we got to Southport and proceeded to hurtle towards the first pub we could find - O'Neills, which I found funny - so that I could use the loo. What can I say? I was in the tight top and I had drank alcohol! Laura, Dan, Tom and a girl called Faye (who later turned out to SAVE MY LIFE) turned up, and proceeded to also buy me drinks. I think I can deal with people buying me alcohol all night, and hey, I was funny drunk! I was just happy; lots of people I really liked turned up to see me and buy me alcohol. All was well in the world.
We then tried to go and find an indie bar in Southport called Underground; Jess's brother works there so we could be waved in with no questions asked. However, we got ever so lost trying to find it. By the time we did, my high heels were breaking my feet, and Faye saved my life for the first time in giving me a pair of trainers. I nearly hugged her.
We got into Underground, which I've never been to before, and it was a lovely little place, actually. People continued to buy me drinks (including a shot of absinthe which I had a tiny taste of and nearly died OH SO HIDEOUS) and I got down with my funky self.
Then the seams on my corset began to break. The support began to actively pop out on me. Before you all ask, the corset wasn't too tight. It was, however, apparently made very badly.
Fortunately, Faye had a blouse. Alas, I didn't have a bra (although Jess offered to give me hers, which was very funny) but under the blouse, I had enough give to dance. It was fab! I missed going out dancing so much, and I remember bouncing around and shrieking "WHAT'S THAT COMING OVER THE HILL IS IT A MONSTER?" a lot, and just having a brilliant and fab time.
I left at about twenty to two, though, due to the fact I'd been up at six (Dad worked an early shift; I wake up and panic I'm late for work and can't drop off again when that happens) and because I didn't want to wait for a taxi.
Such a fab, fab night, and I even acted responsibly when I came home; wasn't too noisy, got some water, got Katie into the right room and because I am a Good Human, I slept on the floor so as not to injure Simon's ribs. I AM THE BEST FIANCEE IN THE WORLD.
This morning was a bit more painful (I basically sat downstairs from about 9.30am onwards, clutching my head and drinking a lot of water) but once the hangover fuzz cleared, me, Simon and Katie sat around on the sofa anf just nattered, which again is something I've missed. Katie and I then went into Liverpool to meet Iona. We had a meal in the little diner place and giggled at the cheesyness of it, before finding the new Quiggins and being slightly frightened of it, because it's... well... different. Our teenagedom is dead, I think. I wanted to get a piercing, but the piercing guy hasn't moved in yet. Alas! (Go Jav for telling me where it was!)
Now I am at home, though, and I am painfully tired, so I will go and get some sleep, and be happy, because I had a wonderful birthday. Thank you for all the messages - and Tali, thank you for the birthday card! - and all in all, I like the world today. Even if my corset fell apart.
And even if I'm old now.
