hathycol: (daleks!)
Most fucking surreal week ever.

So. [livejournal.com profile] loneraven braved the winds and horror that is British Rail for the purpose of coming to the end of the universe to visit me AND MUCH FUN WAS HAD. I started off by treating her to the bogstandard tour of St Andrews - lunch in North Point, and then dragging around and showing all the wonderful examples of architecture (and the library). We then decided that clearly the sensible thing to do was eat ice cream, sat on a bench, and cackling like madwomen and howling 'I FLING SORBET AT THE SCOTS!' for... actually, I have no idea why.

Yeeesssss.

[livejournal.com profile] stupidore eventually came to join us when we eventually came back home, and the night slowly descended into madness, Chinese food, wine and Torchwood, although we eventually caved in and watched The Big Bang Project and decided it was xkcd.com but in the form of televisual delights.

The next morning I skived work, sauntered to my class and went out into glorious sunshine to be greeted by [livejournal.com profile] loneraven, who had apparently understood my crazed directions and after a hasty lunch ("wht do we always end up eating scampi?") we went and joined in the campaign to make people vote for an inflatable Dalek as Association President.

I felt a bit bad about this, as Iona had come all the way to St Andrews and I was forcing her into student politics. However, the whole day was sunny and felt like a mad carnival - the pictures of facebook are a sight to behold - I didn't feel so bad. Especially since she was far too enthusiastic in shouting "VOTE DALEK OR HE'LL KILL US ALL!" at passing strangers and being able to use phrases like "Sorry, she's just taking K-9 for a walk" and other such madness. We had a little place set up the side of the Union, with a home-made K-9, a mini-Dalek, the full inflatable Dalek and people with signs saying "VOTE DALEK or he'll kill me" and other such joy. Katie, Iona and I actually had a rather good choreographed routine for leaflets by the end of the day.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and it was with minor sorrow that I took Iona to the train station. BOOOOOO. Such a good time, though!

I returned to see the end of polling, and the remainders of the campaign group - Katie, Ann, David, Richie, Roddy and me - all went for food. We took the Dalek for a lie-down in my car, though, as we felt the Grill House might object. Over some obscenely delicious food, we mused on what the hell we were going to do if the Dalek actually won. Everyone seemed to have voted for him, and the madness just seemed to be escalating as time went by.

However, speaking of madness I had another election to worry about yesterday. After eating, I flung myself in my car, drove home like a porverbial cat out of hell, became The Mascara Ninja (three minutes for entire make-up!) and flung myself out of the house again. You see, last night was the AltSoc AGM and I had a vague plan to run for Ordinary Member as I quite wanted to have something else on my CV. I got there, was nominated for secretary (against my will) but figured hey, why not?

So, er, yes, I am now the secretary of AltSoc. Oh dear.

The rest of the night was spent running between the voting counts and the AltSoc event just down the corridor, which let me tell you gets confusing. Unfortunately, exhaustion gave up and eventually I had to go home and didn't last to the end of the count. However, loyal readers, I can tell you that the Dalek was the most successful joke candidate ever, and came third, beating two humans and Re-Open Nominations.

Wow.

And now I have to go into town, pick up my car, and write an essay. Mundanity beckons, which I might be slightly glad of, but goodness me, that was a hell of a week. I LOVE YOU ALL. Etc.
