Oct. 27th, 2008 06:23 pmHey kids, you know what should be done more often? Overtly geeky dancing, that's what. Friday night was so much fun.
Of course, it didn't start off too auspiciously. After battling down the streets of St Andrews with a pile of posters and K-9, I didn't feel as happy as I could be. Fortunately, turning up to find Katie and a working sound desk improved my mood, and helping the room be decorated in a beautiful mix of album covers and Doctor Who posters just made the evening start really well. Plus AltSoc brought in colouring in pictures of Doctor Who villains. Bless 'em.
So, yes. It was a good evening. DocSoc held up wonderfully to stereoypes and hid in the corner for the first few hours, but it was really nice just to chat to people and to get to know them better, as well as listen to music that I enjoy. Plus, people that weren't even on the committee rocked up as well as various alumni, including
ann_pan.
11pm clocked slowly nearer. Katie and I started to look nervous. We'd agreed that we'd split the hour between us, and she would have the first half an hour and I'd have the second, but we'd start the hour with the Doctor Who theme. We did so. There were cheers. Katie went on to playa blinding set, and I danced a bit, all the while beginning to worry that my music was rubbish and no one would dance. As Katie finished off, I prepped up and downed some cider.
Fortunately, people danced. To Doctorin' The TARDIS. And it all went uphill from there! I have no idea where the time in the middle went; I looked up and saw a room of people dancing (rather, er, uniquely) to the Orbital remix of the Doctor Who theme tune before joining in myself. It was quite sad for it all to be over.
The terrible hangover on Saturday, though? No fun at all. Due to terrible hangover having to write all my really bloody awful essay on Sunday? Much less fun.
However, I am now on to a full Week of Geek. Tomorrow I'm off to see Neil Gaiman in Edinburgh, and then it's all Halloween fun, being dressed up as Romana from City of Death. I even have a hat that sits perpendicular to the ground. WIN.
Oh, and here are ( some pictures of Friday night )
