So on Friday I went to see Amanda Palmer and LO IT WAS EPIC. It's the first time I've ventured out to Camden properly, and rather than join the epically large queue to get in, Richie and I rather sensibly went to the pub beforehand instead. As such, we got in at the perfect time - as we were having our bags searched, she actually walked past it. I think I did the embarrassing hand-flap thing.

The gig itself was SO GOOD. The support acts were good enough that we've booked tickets to go and see one of them later in the year, and there was also an unexpected dubstep oompah band. No, that sentence is not a typo.

I'm not very good at describing music, so I probably won't on this occasion, plus I can't remember all of the setlist. There was a great version of Missed Me, which made me flail a bit. There was a heart-rending bit in the middle, where she played a new song about the events of the last few months, which segued on to The Bed Song and I found myself having a little weep in the middle of the Roundhouse. Smooth.

(Full disclaimer here: look, I like Amanda Palmer and her music A LOT. It has helped me through a lot of stuff, it makes me dance about and sing and I love it to bits. Some of her politics and public statements make me a bit eeek and I agree with the criticisms of Evelyn Evelyn but I am, and remain, a huge fan despite occasional conflicts.)

She also did a rousing cover of Common People, and ended on Leeds United which still makes me sing and dance and Richie is probably still a little deafened. There you go. Half way through there was also bonus circus acts, which made me flail but still awesome.

Then came the encore. You may have heard about the encore, as it made quite a few press references but basically she said it was a song about the Daily Mail doing an article on her boob popping out at Glastonbury. The song itself was quite funny, but imagine the moment when she took all of her clothes off. Gosh. She says she probably won't play it again in the future, so I feel quite privileged to have been in the audience, surrounded by people all going "DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?!"

It was, in conclusion, a very good night indeed.

London is currently basking/suffering (depends what mood I'm in) through a heatwave. On Saturday Richie and I went out to see a BBC recording thing (it was rubbish) and then came home late after some drinks; Sunday was a quiet day. I now have most of this week off work, excluding Thursday, long story. Today I have finally signed up for a GP and a dentist, been to the Natural History Museum (deeply disapppointing) and popped to St Olave's to see Pepys' burial place and the bust of her wife Elizabeth, which was genuienly quite exciting - I've seen a picture of it so often it's awesome to see the place he worshipped and the street he lived on, even if it's all changed.

I now have a few days left to spare. Tomorrow is most likely going to be doing boring housework and cleaning the car (all of the local magppies have taken a fancy to my car and I can't face the carwash again, I am going to invest in one of those special sponges and sort it out myself) and on Wednesday I am taking myself to the cinema to watch Pacific Rim. HELL YEAH TIME OFF.

(Although if I'm honest if anyone is in London this evening/tomorrow and fancies hitting up a pub and a large amount of Pimms with me, I would be ever so grateful. I had to take a quiet week in order to do boring doctor stuff - now I have a GP and a dentist I have appointments with both, oh yay - but I do wish I was in a beer garden...)
