Feb. 27th, 2014 08:46 pmMy brain, generally speaking, ticks along at about the societal normal (whatever that is). Or so I've always assumed, anyway. Imagine my surprise when I read about an Interesting Brain Quirk something on the BBC and basically had to stop myself shouting at the office "WAIT WAIT I HAVE THAT I THOUGHT THAT EITHER IT WAS JUST ME OR THAT EVERYONE HAD IT AND WE JUST DON'T TALK ABOUT IT." Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response.
Proper lightbulb moment. For those who don't want to click the link, it's basically a tingly sensation on your scalp and back of the next. It's highly pleasurable, but it's not a sexy sensation if that makes sense? I think the best way to describe it is like happy goosepimples on the inside of your head. I've always had it; reading about makeovers, watching other people have haircuts or make-up done (doesn't work on me, mostly; I get too anxious in the hairdressers), really boring salespeople or sales pitches which is a bit odd I appreciate.
I didn't realise that it was, you know, a thing. Reading the description of 'whispers' I thought that some of it sounded quite skeevy, but as Richie isn't in tonight I've leapt headfirst into YouTube and realised that yep, this is a thing and nope, it's not too weird at all.
Richie actually cut my hair on Sunday (yes, I am still too cheap to get my hair cut; he has managed to create a rather cute bob this time and my hair is a blessed two or three inches shorter) and realised I was getting a faint trigger. I was delighted and tried to explain it to Richie, who was good-naturedly baffled by the whole thing.
Is this just me? Are we all just NOT TALKING ABOUT THIS? Do you all just think I'm weird now?
ohgod I don't even have the energy to shout I am so relaxed. A week of mild insomnia means I probably really need this, to be fair.
So. My brain apparently - and utterly non-scientifically proven - does some slightly interesting stuff that in no way impinges on my ability to get through life. I'll take that.
