hathycol: (mr and mrs pond)
Oh internet, I have a cold and feel desperately sorry for myself. I thought I'd survived this winter but apparently not. This is on top of me having mysteriously managed to buggar up my Achilles tendon, if by 'mysteriously' you mean 'running way too much over a weekend you silly person'. It's been ten days and I'm just graduating to being able to take the stairs again. Woe is me, internet, woe is me.

Anyway. In non-injury related news, I held an event for International Women's Day at work a couple of Fridays ago. It was good! I got slightly too tipsy - despite trying to leave at a sensible time I was collared by one of the ladies who helped me set up and she then unloaded all of her personal problems on me. And they are horrible, and bless her I tried, but oh HR is an odd career choice sometimes. So, um, wine. But before that it was good! And I feel like I'm making a difference, sort of, maybe, in how people in the company view women?

It was my wedding anniversary last week, in other news. FOUR YEARS, WHAT EVEN. What is even up with that. On Thursday we went out for a fancy dinner at Sushisamba, which is 40 stories high and bloody expensive. I booked a table two months ago and started stashing money away three months ago. It was a lovely evening, although I have to admit I ended up starving the next day. Whoops. We giggled at the way people acted around us, and tried not to be horrified at the price of the wine, and enjoyed what was a bloody awesome view. Earlier on in the week Richie had sent me flowers at work, too. In conclusion I am still enjoying being married.

We went away at the weekend, too, although I am increasingly bad at taking time off work and checked my email on the whole journey. Yuck. (I have now hired a minion all of my own. I am torn between relief at getting rid of some of my workload, bemusement I am at this point in my career, terrified that I have extra responsibility.) The weekend itself was at a hotel which was also a spa. We are slightly convinced it was run by alien lizards in human skins. The spa was magnificent, and we enjoyed a lovely pool, and an outdoor jacuzzi, and all of these fab sauna rooms. So far, so alien lizard spaceship. The service was really friendly but delightfully incompetent. I got soup but no spoon, I asked for a martini and lemonade and had to talk the barman through the whole process up to and including 'okay, put some ice cubes in the glass...' and breakfast was genteel-y mad. Still, the room was nice and as I said, excellent spa. But possibly alien lizards. I think it was more fun being with Richie and able to cackle about these things.

So that was March. I am now hoping and praying my Achilles might clear up by Easter so I can go out at least for a little super slow and super short jog. I have to go in to work for overtime on Saturday - long story, I am getting paid for it mind you - so it would be odd to take tomorrow off sick. But we'll see.
