Dec. 20th, 2003 09:56 pmOkay, back.
I watched the history thing, and enjoyed it far more than I should have done. Anyway, we shall now discuss all the crap I said I was going to discuss in my last one.
So, firstly, Sir Ian Mackellen. I may not have said this before, but the man is my hero. He plays Gandalf. He plays Magneto. Not only that, but he bloody well pulls them off, too. And he's a gay rights champion, and hey, that means a lot to me.
So, he turns up on Jonathon Ross last night, after Johnny Vegas. (I wanted to pucnh his lights out, until he started talking about LOTR.) And he talks about the film, and then about X-Men, and then it starts talking about his knighthood.
"It was about 1991, and I was in a hotel room watching the news as Margeret Thatcher was about to be evicted from government. A good day! So, anyway, I get a phone call from Downing Street telling me I've got a knighthood."
Basically, the last thing Maggie did was give Ian Mackellen a knighthood. Sir Ian found this funny. So did I.
Andrew. Andrew is cool. Andrew brought me Night Watch for Christmas, admittingly after I wrote it down on his hand, combined with the author. But yay! Night Watch! And he's a Merry fan. Bless. We sat there on the bus yesterday, and we're talking about the film, and I refused to spoil him.
"Does Frodo die?"
"I'm not telling you."
"Does Merry die?"
"I'm not telling you."
"That's a yes!"
"I'm not telling you."
"I'm not going if Merry dies, he rocked."
We're going to go and see it tomorrow, with the uber-groovy Katie. I'll cry at the whole Old Times type reunion, and then I'll cry at the film, and then I'll get messy and sentimental. Oh well.
Went to Guide meal last night, which was the joy it normally is. I wore my Elf Boots though. Huzzah! I won't go into the horrors, but one day I am going to have to kill Megan. Slowly.
So, this week- I'm going out to Katie and Andrew; I'm going to
shipperkitten's (do you want me to bring a sleeping bag? I have a teeny weeny one) for presentness; and I have seen ROTK. I promised myself I would wait utnil I had seen ROTK, and now I have.
I'm going to re-read LOTR, in it's entirety. I'm going to remember the joy of bookverse canon. I'm going to read it as a whole, as opposed to my occasional reluctant forays to check certain cacnonical facts. I'm going to drink tea and eat chocolate while I do it.
Dude, I so can't wait.
And now I must go. Stuff to do, alas...
Oh! And Gary Jules for Christmas Number One!
