Richie and I just bought his wedding ring.

It's a little early, but we found one an independent shop on Lord Street, so after waiting a week we've decided to go with it. My wedding ring is my grandmothers, so that job is done at least. We went in last week for Richie to try it on, at which point the shop assistant danced around the issue of Richie Having Hands Like A Girl in the most British fashion ever, as she delicately tried to explain that yes, this ring was 22 carot gold, but, er, most ladies sizes are, er, and men's sizes are less delicate, and, er...

(A side note: Richie may have hands like a girl, but my official finger size actually slips down into child sizes, so together we are freaks.)

After getting over Richie Having Hands Like A Girl last week, we went through the same dance today during his lunch break as we actually bought the thing. It is a very, very old fashioned shop. The lady smiled at me a bit nervously, and asked if she could make the receipt out in my name, as traditionally the woman buys the man's ring and vice versa. Thought that was quite sweet. Also, the Wedding Savings Account Card has my name on it! Had to ask her to make out a new receipt saying 'Ms' rather than 'Miss' as whilst we are, to both of our surprise, having quite a traditional wedding, we are progressive now and we will be progressive afterwards. (Mutual name change ahoy! Also I am a 'Ms' now and I will be a 'Ms' forever.) After that mild kerfuffle, she gift-wrapped the ring, and then she explained that they give out a free gift with a wedding ring.

Which is why, now Richie is back at work and I am at home with a celebratory centenary silver spoon ("We had them made in 1983!" "... wow. We were born in 1987.") and a gold wedding ring and thinking that is has been a very strange day, given that it's barely 2.00pm.

Not entirely sure what one does with a celebratory cenentary silver spoon...
