Feb. 11th, 2004 06:51 pmI've sat down to do my English homework and for once it's actually done. I also feel proud of myself for the comments I got about my story - as predicted, she doesn't like the ending, but she, in a surprise note, seems to have remembered the story insofar that me and Susie were talking about characterisation a lot later on, and I was bitching about how you can't really develop a character in a story. Sue promptly looks up and says "Ooooh, but I really like Carden - he's sweet." Huzzah, for she has remembered Carden. Apart from the horrible washed out feeling I get when I have to type "So, get to it girl!" as part of coursework, I actually do feel quietly proud that I finished it.
Today was... strange. I didn't really do anything, only it's just dawned on me that, actually, I did a lot. Could it be that I am, in fact, used to college work now? All in all, I was fairly busy.
The film was fun; I want to give Milton a hug. It was also rather funny. The real bonus was Gary Cole - I squeaked when I saw his name in the titles and spent the rest of it feeling weird whenever he used that... normal accent as opposed to the Southern drawl I'm used to hearing him employ. (For... everyone on this list, Gary Cole played Sheriff Lucas Buck in American Gothic.)
Did my talk on Liberalism this afternoon, which was fine, despite not having notes. As such, I adlibbed based on what was on my earlier Powerpoint. Phew. She then starting asking me what I thought of Advanced Liberalism, and I took time to explain that yes, it wasn't too bad, but you still had that horrible Rich/Poor divide...
Possibly sensing Political Radicalism in the same way that sharks sense blood in the water, Elaine promptly leaps on me.
"Well, who would you vote for?" (I blink.) "Sorry, I know that's a personal question..."
"No one, at the moment."
"Why?"
"I'm Labour in principal - I believe in socialism, to an extent. But I don't think that Tony Blair - or most of the Cabinet - are what I would consider Labour."
"Really?"
"Yes."
Came home, made tea, and then that was my day.
Over halfterm, there will be much Stargate geekiness, and I am also dragging
flickerswitch into Liverpool. This is for several reasons. She needs to see Liverpool, for a start. Also, I have no doubt that we will find the much-desired dogtags. Thirdly, I'm seriously considering getting my nose pierced. But because I can, I have done this:
[Poll #247255]
Hmmm. I know that it will hurt. A lot. Does anyone know if the needle or the gun hurts more? And which does Quiggins use?
Yeah. I'm going to go to bed or... something now. I'm tired.

Date: 2004-02-11 08:55 pm (UTC)So, I think your nose would look good pierced, but if you go anywhere & they bring out a gun, take your money & run. No respectable piercing studio should pierce a nose with a gun. & from what I am aware, Quiggins uses a needle.
& in my opinion, it would hurt more with a gun. But I would not know, nor wish to find out.

Date: 2004-02-11 09:31 pm (UTC)Even if you vote Lib Dem or put a cross in every box and write "None of the above?"
In other news, asked ma mere and she said she can't remember how much the nose piercing hurt, but it can't be much worse than your ears. Which is not encouraging, on the whole, but I still do think you should get it done; tis rather cool.

Re:
Date: 2004-02-12 09:13 am (UTC)People who tell me "Oh, it doesn't matter" are normally in for a short sharp shock because ACTUALLY it does matter. It is YOUR government. They govern YOUR life. You have no right to complain about them if you didn't even get off your ass to vote. If you don't vote, frankly, then you should have all your other democratic rights taken away from you.
People who tell me "But I don't understand it..." WHAT?! It's one of the EASIEST voting systems in the world! We only have three real parties to choose from, and only two of them have a hope in hell! You tick a box. Singular. And that is IT!
"Oooh, but it's boring." We're not asking you to sit down and read The Guardian or watch Newsnight, we're asking you to pick a party from three fairly different ideologies (technically) and then tick a bloody box. You can do it by POST now if you're too bloody lazy to get up and vote yourself!
*breathes*
So, yes. I will vote. And I will definitely get it pierced, even if it will hurt like hell. Methinks I shall go armed with painkillers. My ears hurt like hell, but it wasn't unbearable.
Re:
Date: 2004-02-12 09:13 am (UTC)You are not allowed to pierce cartilidge with a gun as it could shatter from the impact, so that means you should never have your nose pierced with a gun ever! If you had your nose pierced with a gun, you would have an earring stud in your nose. They are not effective jewellery for anywhere but your ear. With the butterfly back in your nose it becomes dfficult to clean the area of the 'open wound' & therefore a build up of bacteria could cause an infection.
Infections are bad.
