Where I stand on... meme.

Completely pro it being legal. I'm an insensitive bitch and firmly realise this, but I am of the view that you are legally dead once your heart stops beating. Ergo, you are legally not-alive between conception and when your heart starts to beat within the womb. There is a sizable gap there. I also believe it should be legal because really, do you want people going out there and having it the old way? No. I don't believe in needlessly aborting a foetus out of sheer irresponsibility, either, but I think that often there are strong medical reasons why it should be done.
Would I have an abortion? Well, I doubt that I would ever get pregnant, because should I go a bit mad and satisfy my straight-curious urgings (I do have them, occasionally) I will still use protection. If that doesn't work... well... I don't know. If I knew very early on, I would probably say yes. There are too many people in this world and bringing yet another unwanted one is a bad idea.
Death Penalty?:
Now, here is where my above thoughts contradict. I don't think that people should be killed once they actually become people. I don't think that Ian Huntley should die. Absolutely abhorrent crimes, yes, strain on our system, yes, but I think that hardline prison treatment is a damn good punishment of it's own merit.
A lot of this is influenced by my Dad, actually.
Prostitution?:
Well, I can hardly be against it...
No, seriously though, I honestly don't know. That sounds stupid, I know, but I think that if we better legalised it, then it could work. If people want to sell and pay for sex, then fine. In the current climate, it's impossible for thi to be safe whatsoever, but... it's an essential part of life, in a way.
It's the oldest profession, after all.
Alcohol?:
Overrated. Worst drug available. But there we are. It's socially acceptable, I drink myself, and I think if people do it sensibly there's no problem.
Marijuana?:
Never touched it and never will. I don't like the idea of mind-altering substances. If you want to smoke it, then go ahead - there's no damage if you just do it sensibly. By all means legalise, particularly as a pain-relief.
Other drugs?:
If you're stupid enough to take them then you need serious help. The education is there and should be made more public. I am in favour of shocking campaigns. They're hideous things.
Gay marriage?:
Erm, hello?
Look, gay marriage should be made legal. It's as simple as that. Not marriage in a religious (or at least Christian) sense, because that goes against the Christian beliefs, and I respect that. But gay couples deserve the right to equal benefits and equal rights, and there's no more to it than that.
Illegal immigrants?:
As someone in my politics class said "Get them all in; throw them out afterwards."
I am completely and utterly in favour of immigrants. I think that it should be a less of a hassle to get in here, for a start. We are a nation of immigrants. In my heritage, I have Canadian and Irish, and if you go even further back, I'm a Viking. Which, by the way, is cool. We need more immigrants here or we are going to become a stagnant little island with no progression, and we don't want that, do we? I am in favour of asylum seekers, because we should share what we have in Britain. Is it hurting your taxes? Your poor people you. Deal! Basic fucking human compassion! We are a lucky, wealthy, vaguely important country, and we should help those that we can.
There should be limitations. People should come to Britain and help us. Learn the language, get a job, pay taxes, etc. I don't like the idea of having a weird subsect of society that are seperate - cultures should be brought in an amalgamated, not stigmatised.
Drunk driving?:
Cloning?:
Terrifying in the extreme. Let's learn about it before we start using it. Why the rush?
Racism?:
Absolutely and utterly dreadful from any angle. Are we that pathetic as a species?
Premarital sex?:
I see no problem with it as long as it's sensible. A culture in which we're constantly pressurised to have sex is a bad thing, but where it's simply accepted as a matter of life whether it's before, during or even after marriage, is not a problem for me.
Religion?:
I am jealous of all those who have a sense of spirituality, but I think it can be abused and corrupted. That's a shame. I also think it's a terrible shame that people see the need to inflict their religion on other people. You're happy about your religion? Good! You want to tell me about it? Fine! You want to come up to me in the street and try and convert me? You can stick your holy symbol up your ass.
Personally, I believe in God, but not organised religion. Doesn't do me any good.
The war in Iraq?:
... should have been finished ten years ago. Saddam Hussein should not have been allowed to stay. I agree. Something needed to be done. I agree. Shrub needed to avenge Daddy. I don't agree.
Bush?:
I have so many things to say about him, and the following word sums up most of them: cunt.
He is a dangerous man. He is not very intelligent, and this is a bad thing. He's a right-wing fundamentalist, who is attempting to alter American politics to relfect his own religious views, and I think that's a very, very dangerous thing. He is a bigot.
Get him out of the White House and do it now.
Downloading music?:
Can't be done with it half the time. I like having a proper CD of an album by my favourite band, and a lot of people do to - the industry needs to learn this. Downloading the odd song isn't a bad thing though.
The legal drinking age?:
Not a problem.
Porn?:
Fun the proper place, as long as no one is getting exploited or anything.
Suicide?:
A crying shame.
And now I should go to bed. I've got to get up hideously early for college tomorrow, since I have to don actual make-up. I may or may not have an exam tomorrow, but I suspect I do.
Wibble.
