Also sorry about crappy photo quality, still can't make scanner work! Tell me if you can't read my dreadful handwriting, I appreciate it looks like a five year old who just worked out what a pen was for.
I have written a faithful diary for every day that I was away (and Susan!fic), and I will post it as soon as I have the energy. I'll start at the end. We came off the airplane remarkably late, and reached WH Smiths at 12.05am. They'd just put a display out.
Clare and I nearly ran to it, grabbed the first two books and I paid for them. We went back to Clare's house, and I finished in about three hours.

Well, this really is going to be one that divides fandom. Within two chapters I felt the Slytherin fangirls going OHMYGODYAYSQUEE and I'll admit, it was nice seeing a bit of 'Cissy' and 'Bella'.
SNAPE KILLED DUMBLEDORE. WHAT THE FUCK. Personally, I think Snape is Not Evil. No, really. He made an Unbreakable Vow and he had to keep it. Well. Maybe he didn't. Maybe he should have died rather than let Dumbledore die. I've been saying for ages that Dumbledore was going to kick the bucket but I didn't see it coming in that direction. But is Snape evil? Oh, the trauma. And the Half-Blood Prince was Snape! Didn't see that one coming, did we? Oh, it's all so confusing.
RON NEARLY DIED. So did I.
Ron/Hermione. Bitch, please. The idea fills me with horror. I really just... I don't know. It displeases me. I liked both characters in this, though, especially the whole "We have FREES!" delirium that I enjoyed at the same age.
THEY GOT THEIR RESULTS! My stomach did a backflip for them all. Hermione's reaction reminds me of some people I know, too.
Harry/Ginny is just... strange, although I liked the internal monologue of "Ron'll thump me."
The Draco fangirls are just having a field day, aren't they? He cries and has angst. Oh, bless him NOT. I felt more sympathy for him as a character, but I still can't claim to like him.
What really upset me? Lupin/Tonks. NO NEED, JKR. NO NEED. I am denial about this, because Sirius/Remus is the ONE TRUE PAIRING. IT SO IS. I have all these vague and garbled ideas, but... eh.
Slughorn is sort of strange.
The Voldemort backstory was bloody perfect. Seriously. I am very, very impressed by that, especially the twisted like of Morfin. That was just sick and brillianr and by god, this book is not suitable for kids. There. I've said. You're under nine, you shouldn't read this one because it's scary and awful.
I just sort of felt that it was a bit "HELLO FANGIRLS!" in a few ways, because Blaise Zambini is definitely shown to be a bloke (pretty bloke, though), Draco is sort of redeemed, Snape Goes To The Dark Side, Many Popularist Ships Occur, Harry doesn't do THE CAPSLOCK THING (and Harry finishes with Ginny so he can do Teh Sex with Malfoy? Or did my sleep-fuddled brain make that bit up?). On the other hand, I'm all shocked and confused and betrayed because she FUCKED WITH MY OTP. WAAAAAAH. Me and Clare did this at ten this morning in pain.
I have so much to say, but I'm so tired and brain-dead and shocked that I can't make a reasonable analysis until I re-read it. I can't say I like this one immediately, but as I said, I need a re-read and I need several hours sleep.
Now, take me to a hot bath. And Teh Wank. I want to see Teh Wank because, well, it's a new book and you know it's coming.

It felt...unnecessary, almost pandering to someone, although I don't know who, and tacked onto the end almost as an afterthought, like 'Aww shit, Remus! I totally forgot to give him story!'
Ech. Never mind, we can pretend that she never happened, or only write pre-Veil fic. It's not as if JKR put any hints whatsoever into any interaction between Tonks and Remus.
