Oct. 19th, 2005 09:04 pmMy NaNoWriMo idea came to me last night, in a dream. No, really. It is fully formed and for some reason has an air of being a BBC Sunday night teatime thing that they'd show at Christmas. I woke up, looked around for three minutes in a sort of "... that isn't real, is it?" and then grabbed a pen and paper and wrote down everything I remembered before falling back to sleep.
I haven't had inspiration like that in a very long time. It is fulfilling.
Also fulfilling today was waking up, sleeping through my medieval history lecture (I can pinpoint the moment I fell asleep by the way my head hit the desk), trudging home and picking up my post. Dad strikes again.
"Of course, I wouldn't have thought of feeding rhubarb on toast to an squad of immigration services, but we did have a lot of rhubarb and bread. That's your mum, always thinking on her feet, and in most other places too."
I can't transcribe it all - it's thre pages of demented genius, involving a dog handler, an immigration officer (Erqhuart has been deported), an RAC approved scooter and rhubarb on toast. Phoned Dad tonight to request money for parking ticket (I will pay it back but I am still minus a cheuebook so it is tricky) and told him to lay off the crack. He laughed, so I think he took it in the way it was intended.
What else have I done today? Well, after the letter, I crawled back into bed. This is the privilege of my Wednesdays. I leave my bed deliberately undone, and given that I only crawled out of it less than two hours previously, I can find the exact same warm cocoon spot that is just absolute bliss. This means I can sleep again until maybe 3 in the afternoon. Very comfy and just what I needed. I probably shouldn't have done this, because it turns out that the medieval history library is only open until 5.15pm.
I worked for a good long time in there, though. It's a beautiful library and I can't believe I didn't find it before. Old manuscripts and an absolutely gorgeous building to work in, and tucked away so no one finds it. Which works for me, I suppose. Tightly guarded medieval history and divinity secret, I think. I will be going back there to work tomorrow, though, as it's actually a really good environment to work in. I came home and suddenly I couldn't work anymore, so I shall be spending a lot of time there, reading up of Charlemagne and swearing to myself a lot. This essay is hard, y'all. I have about two weeks left, so I should be okay if I finish the reading by, oh, Friday.
Oh god it's Wednesday.
Anyway. Diet plan continues apace, and out of a demented need to eat the veg before it rotted, I actually ate five types of fruit and vegetables today for the first time since I got here. It may never happen again until Christmas.
What else have I done today? Nothing. I'm still glowing with pride that I actually went to the library AND TOOK BOOKS OUT all BY MYSELF.
Should go and finish one, or at least the relevant chapters. Excpet I won't, because Dad sent the remote control and we have TV now. Okay, we don't have the right channel for the right button, but we think we have them all. We're getting a TV guide tomorrow so we can tell what is what and make a list to save confusion. WATCHING THE NEWS TOMORROW, HELL YEAH. I cannot describe the bubble we're in at the moment. I didn't even know about Hurricane Wilma, or the earthquake in Pakistan (went into Oxfam and bought a book - it's only a tiny thing I can do, but god, I'm trying), until I found ou tin LJ
