Nov. 26th, 2005 09:49 pmTiny little drunk post, simply because I managed to drink two very big glasses of red wine (always a weakness) on a grand total of two crumpets in the space of twenty-four hours.
See, today has been a peculiar day. I woke up with a sense of "fuck this for a lark" and I took Lisa to Sallies. I will miss her, actually, but I came home and promptly stole her bookcase. It is sitting in my room and has no furniture on it yet as I haven't gotten around to it. I was going to, but instead Sarah, Derya and I went to St Andrews to watch the Christmas lights being put on. This took many hours, but it was a nice, watseful few hours, with fairy lights and rides and stuff. Anyway, we were planning to march off home when we met Selda and her boyfriend Garry.
Somewhere, this morphed into going for a drink which suddenly turned into a meal. Now, I won't say no to a free meal, and it was free and Selda paid. Will not complain about this in the slightst and I feel full and happily red wine drunk. Now I am sitting in my pajamas and debating sleeping for just a little bit due to red wine making me pleasantly numb. Arthur really, really hurts but red wine kills the pain so that's okay.
I meant to do something productive day, but I got to know Selda instead, which actually was more productive than my tutorial reading. She talked about the Reiman Hypothesis, which I actually knew something about (no, really) and she's really passionate about physics and is actually a big fangirl (we discussed Miyakazi and Firefly amongst other things) and political activist. It's quite wonderful. Also, she began a slash facebook society. This is a good thing by anyone's mark. Especially mine.
Hmmm. Sleep or the witchcraze? To be fair, I've studied it already so a scan of it should do the job...
I am ashamed how much spell checking and deleting I had to do to this entry. Okay, big glasses and no food or indeed tolerance but eeeek.
Also, Birdy interviewed me.
1. Is St Andrews all you thought it would be? How about the course?
... sort of. The university has not embraced me in the manner I thought it would, and I think a lot of this is to do with where I live. It's very hard to get involved with university stuff when no one ever tells you. As we are plebs and do not belong to the old boys network we're a bit stuffed, really. In that way, though, it's exactly like I thought it would be. I suppose, realistically, it is exactly like I thought it would be on the Open Day. The course (history wise) is definitely what I thought it would be. It's a crazy ride through history with lots of stuff I'm interested in, and people I can actually talk to, and it's fascinating. Spanish is much much harder than I thought it would be, possibly due to the fact it's full of bastards who bastarding "summered in Ecuador" while I mutter that I went to Majorca when I was 6. Sad but true.
2. What's your favourite episode of Doctor Who? Why?
Och. Don't make me choose! City of Death, probably, because I adore the fact that it is a damned intelligent script. The Doctor really does save humanity, for a start. Romana has a schoolgirl outfit. The writing is witty, and makes sense. And it has Paris. Close seconds are The Five Doctors and Dalek, though.
3. For some reason or other, the Scottish Parliament votes to ban all spirit and mixer combinations but one. Which one would you want it to be?
After I moved to an English university, you mean?
Double vodka and orange,no ice. It's the classic and it has served me well. I've never been sick on it, like most other drinks. (AND I've been drinking it since what, 14?) Vodka is my favourite spirit anyway. It tastes nice. I get vitamin C out of it. I would be happy on that drink most evenings, frankly. It's delicious and tasty, yes. *nods*
4. Tell me your favourite literary quote.
I'm not very literary minded, I have to admit. Part of me wants to say this:
"The thing is, I mean, there's times when you look at the universe and you think 'What about me?' and you can just hear the universe replying, 'Well, what about you?'"
Unity appeared to consider this. "Well, what *about* you?" I love it. It sums up the sort of desperatenes of the universe as well as telling you to get a bloody move on and stop being morbid.
Part of me wants to be arsey and say: Nunc scio quid sit amor. Provide your own translation and work from there as to why it's my favourite.
I'm so unintellectual.
5. What do you believe in?
Hope.
That may sound entirely trite and stupid, but I do believe that there is hope. I think there's hope for this world. I think there's hope for every individual person and every situation, which is why even when I fall into an entirely blue funk and I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, I find it eventually. It ties into my somewhat hodepodge view on Catholicism. None of that pre-destination stuff, oh no. There is hope for me as a person, no matter what I do, because forgiveness is an option and I have hope as a person in every life.
Also, I believe in my overdraft.
