Today had the potential to actively suck. In fact, it did so for a vast portion of the day.

Take Spanish, for example. We did a test. I felt confident about it, and even allowed myself to idly contemplate taking it next semester. I felt a sense of achievement, that I was getting somewhere and finally understanding the subject.

Then I got my old test score back - 10.

Well, fuck that then. Came home, ate a chip buttie and watched War Games. I have, in fact, seen that episode before, or at least part of it, because I remember the Inara Thing and I remember Wash and Zoe having an argument. It's all good. That episode confirms two things I've had sneaking suspicions about for a while. Firstly, I have Mal!love. It's been there since the film and it is here now. He is Most Fab. Also, I fancy the pants off Zoe. No, I really do. Gina Torres was never this attractive in Angel, whereas she's all... all... something in Firefly. I think it's the accent. Or possibly the hair. Or possibly what she wears. No idea. But yay, sort of. I loved the bit at the end too. Favourite episode so far, simple as that. Echoing the sentiment of half the known world "WHY DID THIS SERIES GET CANCELLED!?"

Anyway. I then proceeded to lose my car keys so had to run the entire way to my medieval history tutorial (it's a TWENTY MINUTE WALK and I am painfully unfit) and sat in it quietly dying.

And then I was meant to come home and work. That was my intention, I swear. Instead, I phoned home to sort out getting the hair straighteners and my shoes for the Christmas Ball ("if you don't bring them home, don't bother bringing yourself home"), and then it was teatime.

Today is the 1st December. So instead, we ate tea, cleaned out the lounge and decorated the house. We have lots of cheesy lights and decorations and a tree that is the definition of kitsch. Before we put the tree up, I went to get Selda.

ME: KNOCK KNOCK!
SELDA: Oh. Hi.
ME: Hey, we're doing the tree - fancy coming up?
MALE VOICE: *laughs*
SELDA: Um... no...

Oh dear. Didn't realise her bloke was in there.

However, we did the tree, and I put on some random music I've downloaded. One of these was the Benny Goodman Orchestra - Sing Sing Sing.

"What the hell is this?" asked Sarah, peering at the computer.

"Benny Goodman," I answered absently, trying to put a bauble on the tree.

"Swing music? Like they're playing at the ball?"

We all then danced around the living room to Benny Goodman like idiots, Derya with Sarah and me with Katie. I thought evenings like that only happened in films and stuff, but Christ, it was so much fun. No, really, it was, and it was so silly and so much fun under the light of our millions of fairy lights.

We then watched the Madonna documentary and quietly cried with laughter at the poetry.

I have done no work this evening, but I have sorted a months worth of notes. I more than suspect I am missing a lot, but there was a three week period where I didn't attend all the lectures in a week, so there's that explained. My dry washing it hung around my room and it's still a tip from when I emptied it out to try and find my car keys, so I need to tidy before I sleep. It's 00.30 and I'm exhausted, but, y'know, the laundry is scattered around the room, so maybe not.

I danced swing around the living room this evening. That improves any day, even ones with stupid academic pressures.

Tomorrow, I am going to find Christmassy icons! do my reading for this bloody essay and on Saturday, I'm driving to Edinburgh, housemates in tow, for the Big Christmas Shop. We're even going to buy a turkey. Nearly the end of the year, and more cruically, nearly Wednesday. Which, I've just discovered, some FUCKER in the Medieval department has scheduled a staff/student council meeting for. I THINK NOT.

The evening sounds lovely! People should always take time for spontaneous dancing and never feel guilty about it.
