All hell has broken loose regarding getting a house next year.

Have e-mailed the appropriate source to get an appointment to sort it out and I have no qualms in bursting into tears and using every emotional, financial and downright manipulative trick I have. Also spent an hour on the phone with Katie, flailing. This is not good! We were sorted, but no!

That's it. I'm working my backside off next summer and GETTING A DAMNED HOUSE for third year, where I can SIGN THE CONTRACT EARLIER.

I do not need this stress and this weekend is truly sucky. I should have spent it in St A's, but no, I have to get a job next weekend for bloody interivews all start next week and ARGH.

I am very very very stressed and resisting the urge to flail a lot.

Maybe I will win the lottery and buy a house. That will make sense.

And I have a shocking amount of work to do. Doesn't really help.

[eta: but Radio 1? Is playing "Deeply Dippy" which is a thing of love. LOVE I SAY. I am still uber-stressed, but there's not a lot I can do about it right now.]

Sounds terrible hun, house hunting sucketh. Though whatever happens, do not live anywhere you're not happy or with people you're not happy with. I almost went mad last year and you don't need the stress. Good luck xxx

What's actually happened? Isn't the university compelled to give you accommodation if you request it, or is it more complicated than that?

The university doesn't have enough bloody accomodation for us all as it is, it's only compelled to give it to first-year undergrads, although plenty of second years etc make it. We've been frantically looking for another person to make a sixth which gives us a really big chance of getting a house in Albany Park, because it's affordable housing and I can't afford to live in town, much as I'd like to. We cant find a sixth and to make matters worse, Sarah and Derya just broke up., Chances are we're looking at four now and that takes away the case we had with student housing. "There's FIVE of us. FIVE. Put a transfer student in with us as Experienced Students. It can't be that hard. Also one of us has Issues and one of us is so poor that if I don't live in Albany then I'll have to drop out of university."

The thing is, though, I can't afford to live anywhere else and they are quite good about trying their best, but they have absolutely no obligation to do so. I can prove that I'm skint with comparative ease - it's a case of printing off my forms, showing that I pay both accommodation and fees and then sobbing my heart out because I'm so skint that I can cope in Albany (or if worse comes to worst, Fife Park - uni owned but actually nastier, I prefer Albany) but I can't afford anywhere else. They'll probably then give me a place, but I'd rather live with the people I know and don't scare me deeply.

They'll *probably* give me a place in Albany, but I'd like a place with my friends to be honest and this is totally stressing me out right now.

There are no houses left in St Andrews, and I can't afford to live anywhere in town. It's case of affordable housing with the people I like and trust. ARGH.

I am very, very stressed out right now.

Don't panic, things will become available between now and September. Speak to the accommodation people and see what they suggest. Explain to them the financial situation and go from there. If they're anything like ours then they'll have seen this all before. You might have to live with strangers if you stay at Albany, but look how well it turned out this year.

Are you totally sure you've exhausted town and can't find a cheap house there?

Although it might seem as if all the houses have gone, there are always more houses that turn up between now and September. Try looking on the Sinner's accommodation pages too (www.thesinner.net) - there are often people there with rooms/whole houses to let, and some people will prefer to let privately rather than allowing evil property management places to take commission. And sometimes there are cheap places a little way out of town - I've always been limited where I can live because of the whole non-driving thing - but that might be an option for you? I've had friends living in Cupar, Kingsbarns, Glenrothes and Crail and the places they've stayed in have tended to be far better value for money as well.

But it's true, St Andrews itself really does suck for affordable housing. Prices have more than doubled in the time I've been here.

And fingers crossed that you get something sorted out. Accommodation has to be one of the most stressful issues there is, although having lived alone since 18 I've never had to endure flatmate issues!

*cuddles*

I haven't been able to *access the acoomodation process* yet because they messed up my ID on account of my year out.

I've had to actually email the site administrator to get onto the accomodation people because they've not even done me the favour of responding yet.

The thing is, I'd really rather like to live in Albany Park because, um, I like it a lot and it suits my lifestyle. I *can't* afford to live anywhere else because the bloody government thinks my parents pay my fees and calculate my loan based on that. *hollow laugh* I bloody well *wish*. Also there are at least three of us being fucked around because of two other people's problems and it's really cheesing me off, although I do get it and I think it's a shame for them etc, but it's not helping our case.

ARGH ARGH ARGH.

You know, I never realised how much bitterness simple italics can convey.

And it's not the sort of thing you can easily put aside to get on with other things for a week or so, I guess. I hope the university folks come through for you.

Steph

I'm really sorry but I think Steph's decided against Albany Park, it wasn't you but I think for the first time it really hit her that she won't be living with her friends next year like she'd planned and Albany Park is a bit of a distance in St Andrews terms. She had been going to live with my B floor friends but got quite badly messed about, they're all now staying in hall due to lack of organisation rather than anything else. Plus I think she felt she wanted to live somewhere significantly different from hall, and Albany Park was too similar. I'll keep asking but I can't think of anybody else. Fingers crossed, touching wood and hoping it will work out. Remember, Isobel Clifford can be nice, I was there, I saw it. Anyway, once again if anybody else shows any interest in Albany Park, you will be the first to know.

take care,
love Susie
