Mar. 7th, 2006 07:37 pmI am officially a Delivery Girl for a Chinese takeaway.
My 'interview' worked as thus:
"You have car?"
"Um, yes."
"You work weekends?"
"Yeah, whenever as long as it's in the evening."
"Can you come in on Friday, five?"
"Uh, sure."
And that was that.
My pay, such as it is, is £2 per delivery during a six hour shift, as many deliveries as I can take, there's one other person doing deliveries on the weekend nights. I get a free meal! Which is fucking ACE because it means that my meal on Saturday is sorted. I can work pretty much when it's best for me, depending on the other people there.
I have decided that I need a Fry icon. Purely because, well, I may not be delivering pizzas or indeed be in the future, but I drive a car named after a spaceship and also I am a delivery person. It's all good.
Anyway. Back to doing, y'know, university work. I need to buy an A to Z, because I have utterly no idea where anything is in St Andrews and I suspect this will cause a lot of problems.
But yay! Money! Overdraft can start being paid off!

Date: 2006-03-07 11:18 pm (UTC)Oh dear. I sound more like my mother with each passing day. Sorry to rain on your parade hun, but it's always better to be safe than up shit creek sans paddle.

Date: 2006-03-08 12:14 am (UTC)They're not paying towards anything to do with the car. Which is a bit of a nark, but I worked out that it's all proportional. I don't deliver much, I don't make much money but I don't drive much. I deliver lots, I use lots of petrol, but I make lots of money to make up for it. My car is marvellously fuel-efficient, anyway. Czechoslovakian engineering, I tell you!
To be honest, it's purely casual and probably vaguely illegal, but it's not me who's liable if anything does go wrong. I checked.
Insurance is being checked as I type. I am still on my Dad's insurance because I can't afford £1000-odd a year but I can afford the extra tenner Dad has to pay a month. It's not counted under commercial purposes, I believe, but Dad is going to e-mail and let me know. The goods you're carrying have to be worth over a certain amount, I think. Unless someone orders a lot, I'm probably okay. *grins*
It is better to be safe, you're not raining on my parade! There's a girl in a nearby house who does the same job, so I'm going to have a word with her tomorrow about the entire thing just to be on the safe side.
