hathycol: (microgynon 30)

Well, I'm a week into the second bout of Colleen's Adventures With Microgynon 30 and there's not a lot to report, really. I'm a little more emotional than usual (you've all seen my LJ, let's be honest) and I did find myself crying my eyes out over some fanfiction earlier (and also some rubbish show on BBC3 the other night - can't remember what it was about, but there was a small child IN TEH PERIL and then TEH PERIL ENDED and I cried, ahem) but that's about it.

I think the hormonal effects are decreasing, definitely, which is a good thing. Skin is shot up to hell again, though, so maybe that theory is out of the water, but there we are.

Also: Period was, now I think about it, twice as long as usual. I am a lucky human being in that respect, normally - three days is my period, on average, but it hurts like hell and results in me curling up in a small ball and it's fairly heavy - but nope, twice as long. However, it really didn't hurt, I didn't get any PMT, no cramps coming up to it, nothing.

You know what? Despite the hormones, ALL PRAISE MICROGYNON 30. Thus far, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Unless you count remembering to take the damned thing - I find it a horrible nd wrong prospect for my family to find my contraception, so it's currently wrapped up in a towel in my suitcase. I need to set a reminder on my phone - I don't see it every morning so I don't remember to take it until about 3pm when I flail a bit and desperately take it going "Oops, that could have been nasty..."

I was on Microgynon 30 to try and help with my anaemia (body couldn't cope with how much iron it was loosing every month!) but my skin has been worse than usual... I asked the doctor about this and there is another pill (I think it's called Marvelon) that is exactly the same except has a slightly different type of the same hormone in it which is meant to not have so much effect on your skin or something. There is a very slight increased risk of DVT which I think is why they give everyone Microgynon first. I've yet to start it though so I'll let you know if there are any nasty side effects!

Yeah, I know people who are on the Pill exactly for their skin and they use a different type. I was faintly hoping that my skin might improve but alas, not yet it seems! (Although it didn't improve as much as it could have done when I took actual acne medication, so apparently my acne is fucking resilient.) Th nusing practitioner was funny about my blood pressure, though - I'm as healthy as a horse, but my family aren't - heart disease in all my mum's family, so they're trying to be careful with me. But definitely tell me how it goes because I want better skin. I AM TOO OLD FOR THIS I SAY.

I remember acne. It resisted three courses of oxytetracyline...
The show on BBC - "Honey, we're killing the kids", possibly? I find it amazing that we've elevated bad parenting to a spectator sport!

Hehe, if your family come across the pill, claim the uni doctor thinks you have polycystic ovaries/a hormone imbalance. I mean hell, I'm a virgin and I was on the pill for hormone issues ;).

Unless you suck at lying, in which case you're forgiven. *huggleses*

On a shared TMI note, I finally went to the doctors today with my mum as support to get a problem I've had lately checked out, turns out that (if it's what she thinks it is), far from being my fault for poor hygiene, it may be my fault for overzealous hygiene! As the very, very sweet and lovely and gentle and everything I bloody needed doctor said, "We ladies don't actually like being cleaned very much". Heeeeee.

*relieved though, like woah*

*much as the doctor was when I said "I'm a virgin", thus ruling out 1000000000000000234727634268 other possibilities*

No, no, my mother knows I am on the Pill. In fact, she rather demands it and shouts at me down the phone about it. BLess her, ever since I was 14 she's thought that Sex With The Boys wasn't an option so I never got The Contraception Talk so she's panicking a lot and trying to make up for four years of not giving me The Talk.

Trust me, my mother is under no illusions about me being a virgin.

one word, HANDBAG. you don't lose them if they have their own special pocket, and nobody but NOBODY dares to look in a woman's handbag. honestly, i tell them to sometimes and they won't. haha.
your period really got longer? minechanged the minute i turned 18 and then on the pill they went back to something like they were before, a little heavier. but then gradually they've got lighter again. also, you're supposed to come on the day after not taking one? i don't.. agh, i think my last one was less like a period and more like a day or two of dribbling.
thought i'd swap TMI with you. :D
