I'm going to talk about work first, because for once I have something interesting to talk about. Yesterday, I came out of work, went to Tescos, did the family shop, and just as I was sitting down with my well-deserved sandwich, the agency phones.
"Can you cook?!"
"Erm, a bit."
"I'll pay you £20!"
"Er, what?"
For a grand total of £10 an hour, I was sent on an emergency outing of doom to a nursing home in Ainsdale to cook tea for ten people. I coped admirably, because at those wages (plus travel expenses) who wouldn't? I say I coped admirably; to be honest, I ran around in small circle for twenty minutes first and couldn't turn on the oven, but other than that it went simmingly. Honest. No ones died or anything.
This summer is turning out to be bizarre indeed.
Anyway, with all that over, I ended up doing about a ten hour run yesterday. Was a bit knackered, and still am - hard work? What's that? *falls over*
Now. Erm. There's some sort of family stuff going on and it is scary and wrong and it's a bit all my fault. But not, but I've been made to feel like it is.
I was in Megan's room, looking for a CD and I found a leaflet for the morning-after pill in Spanish. Oh yeah. Guess what my sister was doing on holiday?
So, I resisted the urge to run shrieking around the house in horror, and instead went downstairs, told Mum I'd overheard Megan talking about it because I do not trust my sister to think of exciting things like syphilis.
I overheard the argument. One phrase I never again need to hear from my sisters lips: "I USED A CONDOM!" Oh ARGH ARGH ARGH. So, kids, my sister at the age of 15 popped her cherry with a 19 year old she'd just met on the beach. SHE IS A CLASSY CHICK.
It's just... nasty, and Mum is being far too calm about it. It's not fair, really, because she's got more things to worry about, like the fact one of her friends is really rather ill right now, but Dad is quietly burying his head in the sand and pretending it isn't happening, and as for me? Me and Megan despise each other. Every so often I do the responsible thing, but frankly, she's not my child and I have better things to worry about. Mum is blaming herself for going on courses which obviously means Megan is neglected, and Megan is very good and twisting this feeling and guilt-tripping Mum into feeling like a bad parent.
Essentially, Megan is a bitch. And she's proud of herself. Does that make me sound really prudish? 'Cause I'm not, really, because sex is sex and whatever and good luck to you, but there's something really nasty about having sex with someone four years older than you on a beach on Spain when it's (apparently) the first time. Nastier still, though, is the fact that now it's out in the open, she makes nasty little references to it in front of us. I mean, oh god. There's openess and there's propriety, you know?
So you know what? If she turns out to have chlamydia, then the best of luck to her, because I tried my best. If she wants to sleep around in public places, she can do that.
So hey, I really am going to be the only person in the family with a degree. (And possibly A-Levels, but that's a debate for another time.) Good-o.
In happier, less weird news, it is the weekend and only me and Dad are in tonight, and we have some exciting cut-price ready meals from Tescos for tea. And I can sleep for AS LONG AS I WANT and go to bed WHEN I WANT rather than collapse at ten because I'm exhausted and I know it'll just be worse in the morning.
OHOHOH and by Monday I will be overdraft free. OHEMGEE. My bank manager will be so delighted. (Probably not so much, I suspect they'd rather I had the interest on it.)
