Yesterday was an odd day. In leiu of doing any real work, I spent a lot of time trolling the Guardian website, and decided that I was Going To See A Film. To be precise, I decided to go and see that enw Mel Gibson one - Apocolypto. Now, rather than taking my hint from the title of the film, I instead trusting the Guardian. I may be an Independent reader, but no, I trusted the Guardian. See? They really liked it! And, you know, I tend to trust wishy-washy liberal newspapers when it comes to this sort of thing. It's showing at the St Andrews Cinema, Katie readily agreed, and the evening seemed set to go.

So. I sat down, and I learnt the theories of nationalism and prepared myself for the gobbets I might have to write on it. Before we left, we watched the second-to-last episode of Torchwood, Captain Jack Harkness. That ended up being really good! Like, really! I could ramble as to why, but other people have done so, much more eloquently.

And out we went.

Oh my god. Don't go and see Apocolypto. Please. You will waste 45 minutes of your life on a implausible chase scene through the jungle, with BEES! And SNAKES! And JAGUARS! And then suddenly the Conquistadors turn up. Brilliant! I thought. This might get good!

It didn't. The film ended instead. Basically, it was an absolute barrel of crap. AWFUL. AWFUL!

The last episode of Torchwood, which may have a title - I forget - was a relief when I got back. Worse than the one I watched before, but it was such a relief after that god awful film.

Today, I am going to learn medieval history if it kills me. I can't give in to the urge to be lazy today.

Alas! No TV. If it comes up for download, though, I'm definitely going to grab it, because I've heard a lot of good things...
