hathycolToday I went to work, went to see Mum, went to the gym, came home, consumed food, did my ironing, made a MASSIVE TOFFEE CAKE (which is, incidentally, the best cake ever and I am hopped on sugar right now) and then cleaned the kitchen while it cooled. I sat down properly at about 10pm. I made cake because I had to, I hasten to point out; I'm making cake for C at work, who is leaving and I won't be there on her last day.
This, you see, is why I don't mind that I ran around like a lunatic for the last... um... fourteen hours. I am not in work on Friday, and Richie is going to be here tomorrow evening. Unfortunately our weekend will be taken up entirely by Grandad's retirement party in Morecambe, featuring warring family members (Mum, Auntie Val and me vs. Auntie Soo [yes it's spelt like that] and my sister, in various combinations, IT WILL BE AWFUL really it's Dad and Richie I feel sorry for), four coachloads of paying elderly customers who will genuinely miss my Grandad's business, the UK's premier George Formby impersonator, a rather more unfortunate Al Jolson impersonator, and a one-man band.
All of the above is true, depressingly. I will come back with photos, stories, and possibly HIDEOUS SCARS. Mum once broke Soo's nose at a family wedding. As Mum is still in epic gallstone pain, I suspect I may have to take up amateur boxing.
Still, there will be Richie and the fact he was invited means that the set of grandparents I actually like have accepted him. This in itself is very good, no matter what the weekend will bring.
(Garak's face is probably how Richie will look when he is dragged up to dance for the 14th time by Val, who may as well be called Mrs Robinson at these events. Oh dear.)
[eta: Mum's car has been found. Police still baffled by entire thing. Renault claim it's impossible. Megan has been hauled in by the police for questioning as she is the logical perpetrator, although in this case I am inclined to agree that she was not the thief as she's terrified of driving. STILL AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.]
