I learn via listening to stuff and by doing stuff. Or so I was told after some fairly extensive testing at the age of sixteen, and I've stuck to that ever since. Whatever pop song is big at the time and gets played on the radio while I'm revising is constantly put into my brain. Because most pop music is sort of monotonous and familiar, having the radio on in the background while I'm doing stuff helps me learn. It is true, yo.

I haven't listened to the radio properly for a while, so listening to six hours a day is coming as a bit of a shock. However, I can tell you exactly what the song that'll remind me of... well, quite possibly it'll end up reminding me of 2007.

Mika - Grace Kelly

Um. I've now had this song on three times, and I'm not bored of it, although Katie is probably getting a bit sick of it by now. It's all over the radio, and I like it more and more. It's like... Prince meets the Scissor Sisters meets a couple of influences I can't place. It's available for legal download, if you want to be boring, but this guy is going to be massive. Honest. If you hate it, then I'm sorry. If you love it, then remember, you heard him here fist. *grins* Or, you know, on the radio. I mentioned the over-reaching airplay, right?

(I will probably, however, be the only person to, whenever hearing this song, automatically link it with Popular Culture from c1880-1939.)

Speaking of popular stuff, I'm off to see The Last King of Scotland tomorrow. Yes, I have an exam on Monday. However, there is a showing at 6pm, and it's two hours long. More importantly, is is about de-colonisation and how it impacted on the third world and that is what I'm planning on writing a substantial part of my exam on (they are the lectures from the days before I, er, gave up) so it can't hurt to see it from a different perspective. Also I am taking these exams in Scotland. So that is another link.

Or, you know, it gets me out of the house and stops me eating bread because I have uncontrollable wheat cravings which is not what I need to be setting myself up for the two days before an exam.

Anyway! Download that song and tell me what you think. Even if it's "Jesus, Colleen, stop listening to so much shite music." Buggar off, I have a soft spot for pop music done properly. (See my Girls Aloud/Take That minor obsession for further proof.)

Back to the re-read of Crime and Punishment. What crime have I done to deserve this punishment? *wails*

Since I've been humming "Girl from Ipanema" all day, I'll check yours out - as anti-drug. ;-D

I like it! The guy's voice sounds rather like Freddy Mercury, which can only be a good thing. The song has a clear Queen-style going on, good for dancing too!

Not sure...It's different than the usual crap, it seems. You're right - if his voice is really that good and not just technical mumbo jumbo, he can go far. A bit 80s in style, but a retro touch is nice. Evil beat, makes you tap along. Nothing I would buy as such, but probably not turn off either. And really easy to sing along. ;-D

The song gets better after a few listens - I can't wait for next cheesy night out so I can dance along. :-)

I've never read War and Peace, or indeed, any Tolstoy at all, but from what I've been told, Dostoyevky and Tolstoy were very different writers.

Both books are good if you need to fight off an intruder, though.

Oh, so that's what that song is!
I sortof assumed it might be Robbie Williams or something.
