University just cancelled one of my classes for next year. To be precise, they've cancelled ML1402, my Reading For Idiots course.

With the following, frankly rude, e-mail.

I apologise for this inconvenience, but Schools are at liberty to
withdraw modules with the approval of the Faculty, and this
particular module is not a core requirement for any of the current
programmes in the University so that its withdrawal does not affect
any student's degree.

Essentially - unlucky, but we don't care.

I have already got the books. I did this to save money. Now I will have to buy books for another random subject which I WON'T want to take, and indeed, won't buy the books for as I'm BLOODY SKINT AS IT IS THANK YOU VERY MUCH. My options are a random Divinity course, a random Classics course or a random Linguistics course, all of which look AS BORING AS HELL. And I, as it seems, can't fucking complain, so I'm just going to sit and stew in my room and ironically enough revise for ML1401.

I am going to look so pathetic in front of my advisor as I ask:

a. What the hell is easy and won't take up much time?
b. So, erm, do I need to get all the pre-requisites for modern history modules if I am just doing a bog-standard history degre but want to do the odd modern history module presuming it doesn't get cancelled due to lack of interest?
c. Why are you looking at me funny?

I get angry at the university an awful lot, but today is particularly taking the cake. And I have no food in that I have a particular desire to eat. So fuck it, I'm going out to buy potatoes which I will smother is gravy and eat in the form of comfort food and spend BOOK MONEY on FOOD.

(And before anyone suggests it, I don't want to take IT for Idiots because it takes up too much time.)

Classics is brilliant - but it depends on which module you fancy taking.
Divinity can be good, but it can also be a pile of pants.

One of the best 'filler' modules I took was European Lit and/or Russian Lit. They are brilliant, the books aren't too expensive and the lecturer is incredibly understanding.

If all else fails, go forth and wreak havoc on the uni.

European lit is the one that's been cancelled, and I took Russian Lit last year. Argh!

IS1001 - honestly, you're scheduled for a hideous amount of classes, but I showed up for the practical once a week and took ten minutes to finish the work we had three hours for, and then left. I got a 20.
LI1002 - what little of it I did was actually really fun. And if it hasn't changed since I did it, one of the tutors is called SARAH JANE SMITH. (alas, I didn't lick her).
AS1002 - astro for dummies is quite awesome. Astrophysics for arts students - all the fun of space with none of the maths, hurrah!
SA1002 - Soc Anth, ridiculously easy, and had I ever went to the lectures, I imagine it would've been quite interesting.
Or, oh, if Intro to World Religions (DI1009, I think?) is second semester, maybe take that? Or there's the Sustainable Development module second semester, which sounded most awesome.

Nooo! I'm sorry :(

DI2005 is much more fun that it sounds and you don't actually need to work for it. ever.
It is the bestest.

Do the Classics module. If I have any of the books and don't need them for my modules this semester you can 'have' [borrow] mine!
Plus, you can get help from me =D
As long as it's not too hard a course that will be above my head, but I'm sure I can give you some helpful input.
Seriously though, Classics is fun!

i would recommend linguistics as being easy, hardly any work and no books to buy but i am currently awaiting the results of my semester long experiment to see if you can pass while only going to about half the lectures and dozing off in the ones you do go to ... i think i've got my 5 which is all that matters.

when are you free btw? feeling very fed up atm, just got yelled at by the porter cos i left my matric in my room and had to be let back in. nasty bugger. ah well, the feeling will have passed by tomorrow.
