is it a dream, is it a lie?
Sep. 29th, 2007 12:33 pmSo, we had a barbeque.
Except, of course, we didn't, because apparently there isn't a market for barbeques this far North in the middle of September when it happens to be sub-zero outside that night anyway. In the end, we had an avant-garde post-modern barbebque on the George Forman Grill.
Actually, it was a really enjoyable and fun night. Not as many people as expected turned up - all with good excuses, but still - but the group that did turn up meshed really well, actually. Lots of nerdy good fun. :-) I got rather depressingly drunk, but I am a very genial drunk when I'm drinking wine, so it was okay.
I have officially held a house party. One thing to tick off my list of 'things to do' then.
The next day was pretty dire - I had the worst hangover ever combined with work at 7am, and then straight to matriculation and advising, where I smelt of both cheap wine and cmeaing products. Good grief, what a wonderful impression to enter honours with.
Friday was a day of Ikea - I wanted storage stuff and I came out with a blanket, six wine glasses and a lamp, eh? - and last night I Went Out. Friday night is traditionally my Bop night, but the first Bop of the year is always ridiculously busy and sells out ages before the event, so Sascha took me to AltSoc, which I've been meaning to go to for, er, about two years now. I had possibly the most brilliant night EVAR, in which I danced around like a fool (they played the Orbital remix of the Doctor Who theme tune! I DIED OF AWESOME) to music that I really like in an non-ironic way and met nice people and generally had an ace night.
It's been a good Freshers Week. I've spent most of it, thus far, watching Shaun the Sheep (it's so good!) and eating food that's bad for me. Next week I am going to start classes, which is a bit scary - I've just been sent an e-mail giving me reading to do for Tuesday and apparently I need to start vaguely contemplating dissertations and stuff, but I think I'm ready for a new challenge that isn't the health and safety regulations at work. I think my poor liver would like me to stop drinking so much, too.
Oh, and in final news I got a tattoo this morning. I didn't tell anyone I was going because I wanted to have a wuss-out clause if I freaked out beforehand but since I now permanently have stuff marked onto my skin around my ankle, I can't really hide it anymore. It is very pretty but sweet baby Jesus it hurts like fuck. It's a very good hangover cure, though. Headache is completely gone and everything. Since I got up at a very silly time this morning (and got in a very silly time last night) to get it done, though, I have decreed it was worth it.
Now I am going to go and take books out, go and sign up for stuff at the Sports Fayre, and go and organise the Societie's Fayre for tomorrow. St Andrews people - COME AND JOIN DOCSOC. We're in Venue 1 with the other geek societies. We are sneakily after a fairly large grant this year, so the more members we have the more we can justufy this. Come and join, we're the coolest nerds in town. Honest. Also, we have cake?
