I am feeling a bit hacked off at the moment.

Various people I knew in high school keep on trying to friend me on facebook. Whilst in terms of uni I am completely open-minded about who I add and so on and so forth, I am a bit picky about people from school. People that I didn't really know I don't bother adding, and people who used to pick on me I don't add out of principle. Anyway, a girl I knew a bit and quite liked in a sort of vague way added me and I added her back and that should have been the end of it.

In my list of 'Things I Really Really Hate In This World' is invites to the applications. Inviting me to events that I have no hope of making, or groups I hate, is something I can deal with, and the odd application invite to something I will probably like (zombies, etc) is okay. However, this girl actually bombarded me with stuff. It was something like seven applications a day.

I have, before now, asked people to stop sending me the applications which I feel a bit awful doing. However, since I haven't spoken to this girl for, er, five years? I wrote on her Wall:

"Hi, great to hear from you again! Sorry to be a pain, but could you stop spamming me with applications?"

Okay, not the politest message but hey, there we are. Anyway, I got a message back:

"hi, great to hear from you again but could you please stop sending me snotty messages?"

And she removed me from her friends!

So now I am torn between two responses (neither of which I will send as I have been completely blocked, which I feel is a bit of an over-exaggeration): "FUCK OFF THEN" which is how I sort of feel, or a grovelling apology.

Cos I panic about two things, really. One is just a primal, almost teenage response; I constantly feel harrassed by people who I percieve as socially more adequate than me and since I feel my message was a bit terse but not snotty and quite frankly this is just an ongoing problem with a lot of people; people are, as per usual, just taking everything I do and making it seem awful just to have another reason to have a go at me.

My other response, however, it completely the other side of things, because oh god, maybe I am a bit snotty all the time? I know I can be, but it's something I try and curb. Er. This is a bit awful but quite a few times I come across as sounding superior, and I don't always mean to. (Sometimes I do, I admit. I will use 'posh' language for the use of intimidation.)

So, er, yeah. Now I am all irrationally panicked and stuff. And fuck knows why, because hey, these people are all still living in sodding Ormskirk and socialising in exclusively the same social groups they have been since they were five whereas I am not that anymore. I've moved on; I do different things, see different things, am making solid foundations for a decent life and should stop worrying what these people think. And there I go on the superiority thing again.

Mostly, though, I'm hacked off. I don't know. Advice? Thoughts? Want to call me a snotty cow too?

(Oh, and don't even start on exams. There is a real source of panic.)

People can fuck right off with their fucking applications. Is my view on it. I don't think your message sounded snotty at all (much more calm and considered than the ones I usually send) - this girl clearly has issues. My guess is she is has low self-esteem and is jealous of you be being more awesome than her and is thus paranoid and interprets anything you say as snotty. And/or she's just a bit retarded.

To be honest, your message was far politer than one I would have sent! Application spam is so *so* annoying, and you asked her nicely to stop rather than just defriending her straight away which I may have done ;-) Either way, her response and subsequent actions was rude and uncalled for, and in your own words, a complete overexaggeration of what had actually happened.

And you are not snotty at all :-) To try and make you laugh, I shall use my Calvin icon! Behold his facial expressions!

You are in the right, she was way out of order. If she was someone who you got on with perfectly well with in school I would reply with a, I'm sorry I don't feel my comment deserved that sort of response type message rather than anything else. I'd be more shocked than anything as you in no way overstepped your boundaries one bit.

I'm lucky, there's only like one or two people who sent me invitations and it's only one every other day or so so I'm not as fussed about it. But then, I went and deleted like every extra thing from my page, including the events which was annoying when I tried to make an event of my own =p

I can't see how anyone could possibly be offended by a message like that. Clearly she's an immature brat and you're well shot of her. I'd think you're probably better off just ignoring her than cursing her out, fun though that might be, but do whatever you see fit :)

That is the best response ever. I hate applications. I add my own amusing ones (what can I say, I find a cat defending SPAAAAAARTAAAA to be funny) but I don't care about Top Friends or Compare Me or other DRIVEL.

Thank you for validating me. I appreciate it.

I can't reply to her because I've been completely blocked, but... yeah, shocked probably describes it best because it seems like a bit of an overexaggeration.

I am going to stop adding people. The only people who ever send me irritating invitations are the people I lost contact with for a reason.

I unfortunately have to ignore her because I've been blocked but I do really fancy just throwing a fit in return. :-)

Thank you!

Yeah I had a huge delete of all the orange girls from high school who added me. They never spoke to me anyway.
Although I think I'm lucky. I don't get that many spam invites which is good.

That is just ... silly. Of her, clearly, not you; you sent a perfectly reasonable message, and she is clearly BATSHIT INSANE overreactional about such things. Just ... people are weird.

Applications are about the most annoying thing ever, yes. I just quietly ignore most of them, but I don't get too many invitations, anyway, thank goodness.

Oh that's the nice term. They were known as tango warriors sometimes.
I remember one girl standing infront of the mirror adding more bronzer because she wasn't orange enough.Dear god, why do you want to look like an oompa lumpa?

It is silly, I know. *nods* A tiny part of me ponders that facebook was an awful lot better when it was just for uni students...

Yes but it would always be a good thing that they weren't attractive to you so putting on stuff that doesn't really put off teenage boys (because hell, they never pay attention to your face) but stops OMG a girl! fancying them is killing two birds with one stone

*shakes head*

okay, hand up, i do send round the odd invitation... but only to things i'm actually enjoying. knighthood, anyone? the server's crap and some of the gameplay is a leetle dodgy but hey, it's only in beta and in general, it's fun. so yeah, i send round invites to that. but like, everything in the world is not good stuff to have on your frontpage. just... why?
frankly the only way you could've been more tactful is to change the word "spamming", but it got your point across in less than ten thousand words, so she is just being immensely childish. some people take facebook relationships faaaaar too seriously.
*huggles*

Applications about stuff I like is fine but I so cannot be done with "HOW HAWT R U?????" eight times a day.

I know! All these people who used to throw stuff at me want to add me - wtf??

Applications are so annoying, you were quite right to ask her to stop. If I get one more invitation for car racing or super walls, I might throttle someone. (Admittedly, I did once send out invitations to the (fluff)friends application, but only to people who wouldn't mind/had sent them to me in the past, and that's because I am stupidly obsessed with (fluff)friends.)
I've started rejecting people who add me as friends if I think it's completely pointless. These people never spoke to me in school, why do they want to be friends with me now? To boost friend numbers? How pathetic. Reject! Ha, it feels good to do that...
