hathycolRIGHT. I am going to be completely massively offensive here for a minute and thoroughly expect to get flamed into high heaven. However. Let's get some things straight, from the Worst Catholic In The World who is Really Properly English even though she has the name of an Irish nun:
It is not St Patrick's Day today. No, really, it's not. St Patrick's Day, for those who care about such things, was on Saturday. The Vatican looked at the dates, went 'whoops, that's Holy Week and no other festivals can take place that week' and moved it to Saturday so as to better facilitate the party. They're generous like that.
NOW BEFORE ANYONE ELSE WHINGES ABOUT THIS I am bloody aware that Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and today is a wonderful Irish-fest for people who are, perhaps, not native in Ireland but do still quite like Guinness. Fine. However, the point of Patrick is that title he bears - Saint. Sainthood is something that only the Catholic church can fling around, mostly because every other Christian doctrine have rejected the state of sainthood, reckoning that it's a bit of a bunk. They also pick the day a saint can be celebrated.
I am all in favour of a big Irish drinking-fest, or at least I would be if it wasn't me cleaning the Union tomorrow. Go out and party. Listen to Dustin the Turkey's Eurovision song. Drink Guinness. Enjoy it! That is all awesome etc, but seriously, people, St Patrick's Day was two days ago.
Goodness me. I feel ever so much better now.
And on that note, I'm going to go home, write a shopping list, do my shopping and buy a ridiculous amount of cleaning products, and then I'm going to clean the house because we have a cleaning inspection tomorrow. WHAT JOY.
