Apr. 20th, 2008 04:47 pmThe day began with a coffee with a potential summer housemate, as Sarah is moving out and wants to sub-let her room over the summer. I think I may have frightened her a little, as I burbled on regarding the AGM and tried not to be too nervous. You have no idea how far my fear was going at this point, but all things considered, I did pretty well. I printed off the e-mailed speeches for people who couldn't make it, I booked a taxi, organised the clothing, got there with time to spare and was generally Pretty Well Prepared.
An AGM, for those who don't know, is the Annual General Meeting of the society in which we elect the committee for the following year and go over what we've done in the previous year. All that went relatively smoothly, and I got to give my honours out, which made me feel a bit like the queen, but less posh and not allowed to wield a sword. Basically, if you've done good work for the society you get a 'Lord' or 'Lady' in front of your official title. Although pretty much everyone on the committee deserved it, I gave one to
stupidore for getting the library sorted and on to the minister (events officer) for just doing bloody loads this year.
Then we moved happily onto the election itself. We are DocSoc, and as such we're polite; we all nominated each other for the roles we wanted for ourselves because we're just that bloody awesome. Mine was first, thank goodness, so I was thrown out of the room whilst Richie gave his speech, and then I gave mine.
It wasn't brilliant, to be honest with you, and basically ended with my pleading to vote for me. The votes were counted, and we moved quietly on to the next election. Which I then rather rudely stopped in the middle, because the votes came back.
I won by one vote. I have never been so relieved, although, you know, Richie could have been a great president anyway so either way the society won. Hurrah, though!
The rest of the committee looks as though it's in great shape, and I'm banking on getting a few more people involved at the start of next year. It's going to be a great year!
We then celebrated by watching The Planet of the Ood which I actually really, really liked. I know a lot of people weren't keen, but I loved it; I liked the concept, I liked the old-skool feel and I am warming to Donna. Honestly, I am.. Post-Ood, we went out for a meal and then to the pub.
I had a cracking hangover this morning, but hey ho, it was worth it, even if I did just have to sit in my pajamas for about five hours before I could contemplate moving or thinking. I have just sent off a draft copy of the future DocSoc website (the second draft for me, but it's very much a work in progress) and now I have, erk, no time at all in which to get off my backside and do my next two essays and make that playlist.
But that's okay, because right now, I'm happy. Also Katie and I are getting a take-away tonight as we're both hungover enough to feel that we earned it. WIN.

I like the way it sounds so annoyed with me - 'come on, you could at least type something'. Anyway.
A massive well done to you! I am so pleased for you. You utterly, utterly deserve it. *loves*
