Hello LJ. I haven't been updating much as basically my life has exploded in busy, but I've actually put some time aside to update. I'm cool like that, you see.

So! This week. On Tuesday Katie and I wrapped up against the elements and strode out into the cold air to drive to Edinburgh. After discovering my car doesn't get very warm, we shivered our way into the hell that is Edinburgh traffic. In rush hour. And then got lost. Anyone who has seen me drive in an unfamiliar location has seen the horror that is me in full rage mode, but luckily Katie has seen this several times and knows how to calm me. Fortunately, she actually knew were we were going to got us to the Churchill theatre. After going for chips -mmm, grease - we went into the theatre itself and got ourselves ready for the awesomeness that was Neil Gaiman.

YAY FOR NEIL GAIMAN. I was sat with, rather bizarrely, someone I knew from Ormskirk who now goes to Stirling uni as well as Katie and Sasha etc. And oh, Neil Gaiman was just amazing. He read from The Graveyard Book and then did a question and answer session, and answered questions. About Amanda Palmer (three people cheered, all of them either me or someone sitting with me) about Good Omens and Terry Pratchett ("Well, Aziraphale and Crowley are sharing a house now") and about who would win in a fight between werewolves and vampires ("Any fictional werewolf, even an American Werewolf in London, would win against Stephanie Meyer's vampires..."). It was just too short, that's my only problem. I then got my book signed, and was outshined by Katie and her polaroid camera but seeing Neil Gaiman deface a polaroid brought me lots of joy.

And then we drove home, completely free of any traffic issues. Always the way.

The next day was the DocSoc Halloween outing. I went as Romana from City of Death. If I say so myself, I looked marvellous. As we watched Blink, however, phones started to bleep, mine included. You see, other people were watching the National TV Awards. There was nearly a riot at the end of the meeting. One girl cried. Although actually she'd never seen Blink before so it may have just been residual fear; she was really freaked out!

After a lull of non-geeky stuff on Thursday, Friday was AltSoc. I hauled out my Romana gear once again and after a very quiet night, it finally got busy. As I danced rather enthusiastically (clinging onto my straw boater) someone dressed as the Tenth Doctor sidled up to me. "Can I ask you something? Are you dresses as Madeleine or as Romana?"

"Romana!" I howled happily, and we got a photo together. When I have time I'll post it up.

And now it is Sunday. I am going to go out to the library shortly and work my arse off on finishing my dissertation reading (also it's warmer in there), and then I have to write up a plan for it and try not to have a heart attack at the prospect. 12,000 words to write DO NOT WANT.
