118118 is a popular texting service that promises to answer all your questions, and if you text them once you get free ones for the rest of the day. After settling a pub-based argument last night after DocSoc ("Look, I'm telling you, I Believe I Can Fly WAS the song from SpaceJam!") a DocSoc pub meeting went a little... bonkers, shall we say.

So, this was our conversation with the 118118 call centre, who probably had an instructive few hours on the internet because of us.

ME (quoted verbatim; I plead a lack of use of grammer in text messages): Who is the best doctor in doctor who?

118118 (after a long pause): The 118 Team thinks that Paul McGann who played the 8th Doctor in the series is the best doctor. thx!

We were both horrified and impressed.

ME: Who was the best new who companion- rose, martha or donna?

118118(a very short pause): We think they are all great. However, we think Rose is the bext. thx.

After a conversation about, amongst other things, shoebox_project and OMG MY COMMITTEE IS FULL OF NERDS, we did this:

ME: When did remus and sirius from harry potter start sleeping with each other?

118118(a long and horrified pause here): No info found. However, Sirius Black is Harry's godfather. thx!

ME: Who is more irritating- adric or turlough?

118118: It depends on the viewer's taste about their characters. Each portrays a unique role in the series. thx!

Finally, coming up the midnight, we can up with this little gem:

MME: Who is going to be the next president of the university of st andrews doctor who society? Any random name will do.

We expected to get back a sort of 'Geoff.' Instead...

118118: Dr Daniel Barker. You can ring him at 01334[phonenumber]. He is a member of the Biology IT Committee. thx!

I nearly ruputured something laughing, I really did. A pound well spent there!

I am 4,324 words into my dissertation and I've spent far too long researching stoicism. GOOD-O.

The 118 team need to watch something made prior to 1995, then! I think I share your horror and impressed-ness.

We think they are all great. However, we think Rose is the bext.

WTF? Donna would clearly win over Rose! Even Martha deferred to Donna, and Martha was very much better than Emo!Rose. (Although early not-based-on-Samantha-Jones-at-all!Rose wasn't too bad.)

Probably around the end of the second year or beginning of the third, boys being boys...

I like the idea that even now they're sitting in the call centre reading Harry Potter fanfiction being all "WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING?" I do hope they didn't use Google Images.
