welcome, 2009
Jan. 1st, 2009 04:37 pmAfter spending MONTHS completely and utterly resolved that this New Years I would stay in and work and be in bed just after midnight, this failed. Although I did manage to write a hell of a lot of my dissertation before I went out, at 8pm I had my tea, had a shower, and braved the frozen night to go to a house party.
By midnight, I saw out the year in the way it deserved; I was completely trashed on red wine after necking a bottle of it in two hours and jumped around a small living room with people I'd only just met, none of us knowing the words to Auld Lang Syne but singing it anyway. And yes, I did see in the new year with a kiss.
Then I woke up and through some miracle have staved off a hangover. Given that last year I stayed in and spent the start of the new year working in a nursing home, I reckon this is probably a good omen. And tonight I am going to finish my dissertation and then watch Jonathon Creek. Which, to my mind, is a jolly good way of seeing in 2009.
