Apr. 5th, 2009 04:59 pmHelp, help, I'm living in an Alfred Hitchcock film.
No, really. Whilst most of the rooms in the upstairs of this house have an attic above them, I have a slopey bit of wall. It makes the room look cosy and small and I like that. The head of my bed in under it, in fact, as the room simply won't go together otherwise. This means that heavy rain does tend to wake up, and stuff like that. Recently, I've had a few rude wakenings in the mornings when birds descend and scitter around (or thunk loudly if it's the gulls) but I can generally deal with it.
However, the last two mornings I have been attacked by woodpeckers, or some sort of weird mutant bird that does nothing but jump up and down above my head, and peck AT THE ROOF. What kind of bird PECKS AT THE ROOF. Combined with the fact that my body has suddenly decided to lose its ability to fall asleep properly means that I am ratty and angry. Plus I've been in work the last two days. WEEKEND SHIFTS DO NOT WANT.
So, yeah, basically, I am probably going to be mobbed by angry gulls in the next few days, or I'm going to clumb on my roof and start swinging a broom around wildly. Look out for entertaining news stories about this.
On the bright side, at least I'm going to be up at silly o'clock to phone around all the garages in the local area and cry at them and hopefully find someone willing to fix my alternator/battery/whatever the fuck is wrong ASAP. I may sit in the garden and try and see what on earth they're doing.
