It has been an Interesting Week, which I can now talk about.

Basically, I went to DocSoc and lovely housemate [livejournal.com profile] stupidore was what we can cheerfully dub Poorly. I set her up with blankets and fluids and skipped out to DocSoc and had a lovely time. I came home to discover the TV on but the lights out. Confused by this, I flipped on the lights briefly to find [livejournal.com profile] stupidore in what we can less cheerfully dub A Bad Way. Between the light aversion, headache, etc, I resisted the urge to phone a ambulance and phoned NHS Direct instead, who panicked for me.

They sent out an ambulance instead and took her in, with me in a seat. It was... not fun, although a lot less fun for Katie, I appreciate. I remembered to take her dressing gown and her phone in, although I did forget my housekeys. After arriving and phoning Mohawk, I sat in the waiting room and fretted by myself, waiting for someone to let me through, or at least for the neds in the waiting room to shut the fuck up. Eventually Mohawk came through and they let us both go and see her for a wee bit, until they wheeled her upstairs. After a while they basically threw us out.

I got home at 3am, packed a bag for her, and fell into my bed. The next day I woke up stupidly early and went to the dentist, as I had spent a night in Ninewells hospital with full snaggletooth. The dentists battered the hell out of me and shoved the crown back in agai, and now I'm waiting on an appointment opening up for me. (They only do appointments two weeks in advance, and my crown takes at least two weeks to make in the lab.)

With a numb mouth, I headed to Asda for grapes and then shot over to Ninewells and did the bedside thing all day. Now, I know that hospitals are The Best Place for ill people, and Katie's mild lack of diagnosis (I know they ruled a lot of things out) meant that she had to be on the ward where they bung you while they're waiting for beds but they want you out on A+E, but eeeek. Never let me be an old person, that looks no fun at all. If you added together Katie's, mine and Mohawk's ages it was still younger than the average age of everyone else there. Anyway, we finally managed to get her home by about 8pm on Wednesday.

I am now currently acting in my traditional and well-worn image of Every Student's Mum, and making sure she is now fed and well-rested as best I can, in between trying to keep up with everything else I need to do, which admittedly is just one essay. And organise the OddBall, but I'm mostly ignoring that, a policy which has thus far actually mostly worked.

Oh, dear! Katie's lucky to have you, you know! I hope she and your teeth all feel better soon...

It turns out that if you cut me in half you would find the word CARER emblazoned just next to GEEK. That, and I like cooking for other people. :-)

I hope she is better to, even more than I hope snaggletooth is better. That is officially caring, yo.

ALSO ALSO ALSO your mum and my mum are apparently bonding over us. There have been hugs and all sorts, or so I've been informed. And mum thinks she's a very good doctor, and if you can't trust the word of an assistant nurse practitioner (no, she doesn't know what the title means either) then who can your trust?

*hugs* It sounds like you did All The Right Things, for which well done. I hope Katie and your tooth are right soon!

Oh goodness. How awful. NHS Direct is the best thing ever when it comes to such things, because I would never be quite sure whether to phone an ambulance or not. *hugs* Well done for coping and doing all the right things! I hope Katie (and snaggletooth) feels better soon. See, I send icon flowers for both.

I hope there's some luck with the diagnosis... there's nothing worse than being ill and not knowing what it is. Sounds like you did a great job of taking care of her. :)

Me too! Between snaggletooth and Katie I think the NHS might be out to get us, just so they can experiment on us. Or something like that.

I love NHS Direct like burning. If I could marry it, I would; in a month it's sorted out two fairly large problems, and filled in for us when all the GPS in Fife (really) were shut on Thursday afternoon.

Yay flowers!
