I have a lot of stuff to do, notably an essay in between lots of overtime. I will write about my Saturday Night Of Stupidly High Heels later; for now, I am hearing a lot about this Dreamwidth thing and whilst I have no intention of leaving LJ (I'm tied in financially and I don't want to lose my flist) can someone possibly give me the lowdown on it and possibly also an invite code of some description?

(I remember the days you needed a code for LJ. YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN etc. Oh god I am an old lady in internet terms.)

Anyway, not dead, hangover on Sunday had a good go at trying, though. Massively behind on everything. ARGH.

[eta: [livejournal.com profile] dougs has been lovely and helped me out re: code. I'm hathycol over there - that's been me on the internet for seven years, which is a third of my life so why mess with it - but there's nowt up there until I get on with exam revision and need to procrastinate.]

Ditto on Dreamwidth and not leaving LJ; I cannot give you the lowdown because I joined yesterday and know nothing about it, but I can certainly send you a code.

...ok, actually I have no invite codes. I am showing my ignorance at the whole concept, I sort of thought you just got them (at least one, anyway) when you join. Sorry.

No worries, you are at least further ahead than me. I still think that DW stands for Doctor Who and am very confused at some LJ posts about the whole thing!

Dreamwidth is a fork (not a clone) of the LJ codebase with lots of new development, and it's run by people who quit LJ (or who quit as volunteers-for-LJ) because they didn't like what LJ was doing.

If that isn't enough to recommend it, have a look at their guiding principles here and diversity statement here. This is all very encouraging.

I can send you a code if you'd still like one.

It does sound... positive, actually, particularly the part where it's not just a clone of LJ. A code would be lovely, thank you! (hathor _ sgc @ hotmail . com)

Yeah, I'm over there because I prefer their politics, and since I'm not financially invested here it makes sense for me to switch. Catch me at sevenhelz there. Or, since you haven't replied to anything I've written in about a year, don't, and I'll assume you don't want to hear from me. Whatever.
