Apr. 5th, 2010 08:03 pmThis weekend,
stupidore came up to stay. We lived together for four years, but I have to admit I was slightly afraid that our tendency to merge into a bizarre married couple would have disappeared, but no fear! Despite having not seen each other since December (and that was only for a day) it turns out we still get on marvellously, which made the weekend an amazing amount of fun.
After a Thursday night of takeaway and wine, we got up early on Friday to pick up Jo and Jess, buy an enormous amount of food and then we went to Knowsley Safari Park, which was a brilliant day out. The weather held for the first part of the day, and it wasn't all that busy, either; there was a full pride of lions looking sleepy, which was probably the least dangerous part of the day, in the end! We went throug the baboon enclosure and briefly had a baboon sit on the car, although I have to admit that the best part of that bit was watching other people's cars get destroyed. It was an ostrick that caused the most danger to life and limb though; it came over, peeked through our windows, and then leaned against my car meaning that I couldn't move. I have a very little car. An ostrich is big. NOT A HAPPY COMBINATION.
We ate our lunch, watched the elephants and the meerkats, and drove back through in the rain, during which some animals looked much less amused and some rhinos nearly ran into use, before a keeper zoomed in to save the day.
After dropping Jess and Jo off, and having a meal containing no meat (Good Friday!) we went out to see Kick-Ass. I implore you all to go and see it, if only to experience the slightly terrified giggles of British people who can but laugh nervously at eleven year olds saying 'cunt'.It is, though, a really really good film, and there's even some quiet Serious Stuff in the middle of a film that is genuinely funny and a great comic book film, with lots of geek love.
Saturday consisted of... well, I went to work. You all know about that. Needless to say that tomorrow will be a world of fun. In the afternoon we went to Southport, as the weather was bizarrely funny and surprisingly warm, befote dashing home for DOCTOR WHO.
Oh, it was marvellous. I'm not sure about the titles - I'm sure I'll adapt to them - but I loved every other part. I think that Matt Smith is currently making a great Doctor, having a typical mad regeneration ("fish custard!") and wandering around as the Raggedy Doctor. I'm also chuffed to see that the action didn't take place in London, although I still await the day that it happens in the North. He is scary, and mad, and authoritative, and... I don't know, he just feels right.
Amy Pond is MARVELLOUS. There is an outraged piece in the Daily Mail that she's too sexy and wearing too little - er, Leela anyone? - but I think it's great that she runs around as a kissogram, which lets face it is probably one of the most innocent jobs all things considered. ("So she's a stripper?" my mum queried. "Not on Saturday night telly," I replied.) She also seems very capable, and just wonderful.
Oh, and I found the alien scary, personally.
We went out in the evening to the many joys of Ormskirk. To be honest, I was just enjoying getting to live under the same roof again!
Sunday was a quiet day, being Easter; DVDs and far too much food, and a new Johnathon Creek! BBC YOU WERE SPOILING US.
Today was a bit more busy. We went into Liverpool and spent far too much money, trailing around like we did in the Dundee days, only with a lot more money in the bank.
It was, basically, a brilliant weekend. I'm exhausted now - dread to think how Katie feels, having to take that train - but I'm glad that I got to have a great weekend, even if I do have work tomorrow.

ME: Ahhhh.
I didn't think I found the alien scary, but the door of the bathroom just creaked open by itself, and I've had to be reassured that there is no ceiling-worm waiting to be all SCARY at me.

Date: 2010-04-07 02:09 pm (UTC)All in all I agree; I was terrified that Matt Smith would be awful but he wasn't! Only a couple of irking moments and even a few laughs. Yes, love the fish custard bit. Pretty damn obvious that Amy was Amelia... They matched the actresses super well!
Ooh, and have you read the Torchwood books by the way? The ones I've managed to get my hands on so far are really brilliant... They're fanfiction in print!!! <3

Also, photos of meerkats, yes?
