Jul. 6th, 2010 08:57 pmOkay, so I am having a concerted bash at this swimming lark which is all fine and good but that's the last time I go on a bloody Tuesday. Kids! ARGH. I know they have a right to use the pool as well, but swimming lessons are pretty much always on. I learnt how to swim in this exact same pool, as it is quite a big one and they just put a rope down the middle with lessons on the left and normal swimmers on the right. I remember, very vividly, being the one on the left with instructors howling 'SPLASHY FEET!' very loudly so quietly bobbing along on the right hand side is really odd. Still, I can't resent swimming lessons.
What I do flipping resent, though, is the hordes of small children on my side of the pool. Actually, no, I also resent people going too fast and too splashy and making water go up my nose and people looking at my judgingly because my tankini has rolled up and some of my hideous stomach is on show, but the hordes of small children are particularly aggravating. I know they have a right to swim as much as me, and it is a public pool, but STOP WITH THE DIVEBOMBING NEXT TO ME, I AM DESPERATELY TRYING TO HAVE A BREATHER AND FIND THE COURAGE TO DO THE NEXT LENGTH.
That said, I do like swimming when it quietens down a bit - I like the peace and quiet of it, especially after a day at work. And I'm enjoying swimming and doing a bit of exercise, even though I am quite bad at it. Apparently, though, Tuesday is the busiest night of the week so I shan't be doing that again. Friday was nice. Friday is the way forward, I think.
If anyone else can recommend any other forms of exercise that are not a. the gym (I disapprove of gyms in general and definitely personal ways) and b. running then please go for it. I'm open to exercise classes but I do not own a bike for cycling.

Date: 2010-07-06 09:07 pm (UTC)I once went swimming before school (yes it was that long ago) & it was really rather nice to go that early. You realise that swimming will get much more difficult once the summer holidays start which is soonish?
If you wanted a bike I'm pretty sure you could borrow mine (as if I'll ever want it back) as it's been sat in the garage at Mum's for ages.

Date: 2010-07-07 12:36 am (UTC)I blether awfully. I could babble an awful lot more about the AWFUL people you find in swimming pools - mostly just annoyingly awful, not actually awful awful - but I will save that for another time.
Personally I like the idea of some sort of martial art or self defense technique for exercise, but again, personally I have the 'other people' and the 'makes you sweaty' problems. :)
