Dec. 21st, 2012 10:20 pmI started writing this on 21/12/12 as mostly a note that the world hasn't ended, so I can talk about the last twelve months. This is going to be a long one.
01. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Got married!
Got a job I don't hate!
Drove to London!
MOVED to London!
WHAT LIKE THAT ISN'T ENOUGH
02. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
YEAH, I GOT THAT NEW JOB. Also, the wedding planning was successful. Overall: good!
My new year's resolution for 2013 is as follows: sit down quietly and attempt not to have any major life changes.
03. Did someone close to you give birth?
Yes!
stupidore gave birth to beautiful Maisie and I can't wait to meet her next year.
04. Did anyone close to you die?
No, and I am grateful for this.
05. What countries did you visit?
Quite a few! For greater or lesser lengths of time, I visited:
Italy
Germany
Czech Rupublic (I spent a few hours there, all on a train)
Austria
Switzerland (for lunch!)
France
Given that last year I put 'Southport' this is an improvement.
06. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A little bit of boredom, and a cheap pub in London.
07. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Most definitely 17/03/12, during which I got married to Richie. Wahey!
08. What was your biggest achievement(s) of the year?
Got a job that I actually enjoy
Moved to London and thus far not totally fucked it all up
09. What was your biggest failure(s)?
Do I get in trouble if I say 'very little'? I have had some failures this year, of course, but it's been a fairly positive year, as they go.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yup. In September, I managed to contract Cystitus of Death, which involved two courses of antibiotics, rashes, hospitalisation, blood and pus in places it shouldn't be and being catherterised.
All while on honeymoon. Which I think maybe sticks this answer in the failures pile, though not a self-inflicted one. No, really. That's the worst part.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
The deposit for the new flat is pretty high up. And a sofa?
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
SO MANY. I must give massive thanks to
stupidore and
loneraven for keeping me calm in March.
Also, you know, my husband's.
And all of my family and friends who made this year so good. I LOVE YOU GUYS.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My ex-boss's. Crucially, no longer my boss.
14. Where did most of your money go?
My wedding!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
WEDDING! NEW FLAT! NEW JOB! IT'S AN EXCITABLE YEAR!
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or Sadder? Happier.
ii. Thinner or fatter? Significantly fatter.
iii. Richer or Poorer? At this exact moment in time: poorer. Long term prospects, considerably richer - hurrah for London payscales!
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Seen more friends, definitely.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
(Last year's answer:) "As always, drinking. Crying. Cried a lot this year. Undignified, really."
I think maybe still appropriate.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Tomorrow, Richie and I are having 'our' Christmas. I'm working on Christmas Eve, coming home, and then driving straight up to Ormskirk to spent a few days at my parent's house where we will drinkand eat far too much.
22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
I never answer this question.
23. How many one-night stands?
None.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Doctor Who. I also went fairly nuts for The Thick of It, The Young Doctor's Notebook and Being Human.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, which is a good thing.
26. What was the best book you read?
The Stand, by Stephen King. Okay, so the rest of world got there in the Seventies but WHATEVER.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I re-discovered B*witched, do they count?
28. What did you want and get?
Married, a new job!
29. What did you want and not get?
A lottery win?
In all seriousness, this year has been one of many blessings and I don't think I can complain.
30. Favourite film of this year?
I sort of feel like The Hobbit and The Avengers should have a big fight, because I can't decide.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 25. ARGH. I went to my parent's house, had a barbeque and got hammered.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Almost nothing; it's been a very satisfying year.
I mean, the obvious things; a lottery win, a job involving writing, so many things, but in real terms it's been a good one.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
'Gosh, I hope this still fits'. For a while, I convinced myself that everything I owned had got smaller. This is, in retrospect, not true.
34. What kept you sane?
Getting through things - there's something nice about having a plan and taking it through to completion.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Richard Armitage. Alas. He will never leave my heart. (Or my hormones.)
That was last year's answer and damn, it's still true.
Also, Sue Perkins.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
An awful lot of awful things have been said and done against women's rights this year, and it has really bloody pissed me off.
37. Who do you miss?
All of my friends who don't live where I do. You know, everyone.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Er. I have met lots of new people, but only really in the last three weeks so I can't really judge.
OH OH HEY DOES NICHELLE NICHOLS COUNT.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012:
Sometimes, in all seriousness, stuff works out.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways"
So, you know, a quiet one all in all.
