Today I got an offer for a telephone interview. I have recently abandoned my scattergun approach to job applications and focussed purely on Dream Roles, because whilst it represents more pain in terms of rejection, it means I don't have to feel bad for theoretically uprooting Richie a second time, and also means I won't have as many potential interviews to fill up my time. I am out of holiday at work, so too many sick days will look dodgy.

However, the telephone interviews all take place during the day and take 45 minutes, which is longer than my lunch break. As such, I have booked a slot on a day I was already pulling a bit of a skive. Mum's operation for her gallstones, finally confirmed, is on the 23rd. Richie is turning up on the 23rd in the afternoon. I am going to 'pick up Mum' which is actually a translation for picking up Richie from the station. I will now be leaving to 'pick up Mum and look after her' significantly earlier, meaning I will do a telephone interview at home and definitely pretend that work is okay with this. And then pick Richie up.

Truly I am enveloping myself into a web of lies. Oh well.

I am still on my teetotal month, which is frankly just getting dull. On the bright side it's only going to last another week, when I'm going on a night out with friends and will treat myself to a small drink or three. Plus I have officially saved up enough money to get my hair cut tomorrow, which is a definite huzzah.

Speaking of saving money, Mum pulled me aside when I popped around on Tuesday night. This was just after I'd informed a pregnant friend of my sister that her scan photo 'looked like a peanut'. I thought I was being charming by not saying 'it looks like an alien horror, are you sure it's human?' but apparently peanut was also taken badly. Who knew? After informing me that apparently the standard response is 'oooh, isn't it cute' rather than comparing their unborn to a salty legume, she started asking me questions about wedding dresses, and had I seen any I liked. I told her that I had, but it was very much beyond the budget, which is about £400 including veil and shoes.

"Well, your father and I are going to pay for your dress, because it should be special," she said firmly. "Although if you could stick to roughly the same budget, that would be good."

I was flabbergasted, not least because she has shown very little interest in getting involved and previously refused to pay for anything. I don't mind this, as we were expecting to front the whole thing ourselves. I'm really pleased that she's showing an interest, though, and wants to come dress shopping with me. This means we'll be faced with a day out of [personal profile] loneraven, [personal profile] stupidore, my Mum, and me. I suspect pink wine will be involved!

Anyway, after I thanked her and hugged her, she continued. "Also, your father doesn't know this yet, but we're also paying for your cake. I know you, and I'm not having you buy in a sponge from Asda."

... little did she know it was going to be from Marks and Spencer, thank you very much!
