Things that make my tree shed pine needles: brushing against the tree, shaking the floor around the tree, putting a cup down on the table near the tree, looking at the tree, thinking about the tree, saying the word 'tree', that bloody butterfly flapping its wings in the Amazon.

Anyway. Despite that, I am rather enjoying the festive period thus far. I spent this week with appalling laryngitis, the worst I have had ever. By Thursday it had completely died, and I went into work for an audit, croaked through it, came home with my laptop and worked quietly in the kitchen and proceeded not to speak for the rest of the day. I managed to coax my voice back enough to be back in work on Friday, where the office was in general end of term type high spirits, combined with our Christmas party last night. I got cheerfully hammered on white wine and danced like a loon. I've spent today with an intermittent hangover, but there you go. I haven't hit the horrors yet or had dreadful flashbacks so I can only assume I didn't make too much of a prat of myself. I do enjoy dancing like a loon.

Tomorrow Richie and I are celebrating our mini-Christmas, where we do the early present opening. I'm quite looking forward to it, although my cleaning and shopping preparation today was a little haphazard. Forgot to buy: crucial ingredients for meals this week. Did buy: a cheeseboard! Ah well. I will also hopefully feel healthy enough tomorrow to manage to go for a run, and maybe say some words out loud and everything.

Next week I'm work for two days and then Oop North on Wednesday for five days. It's going to be a somewhat fraught family Christmas, I suspect, but we'll cross that bridge when I come to it. For now I am content to fight the rest of my hangover and then watch Strictly Come Dancing in the sparkly light of the Christmas tree.
