Jun. 21st, 2003 11:18 amI woke up this morning at 7.15, left the house at 7.30 (first time I've seen the outside world that early for months), wandered to Safeways, and...
There was already a que. Seriously.
Felt midly aggrevated by this, but it wasn't a big que, and I felt v. out of place since it consisted of pushy mothers, little kids in Trinity Stage School (boo hiss) t-shirts evidently buying it before class, old people who hadn't a clue what was going on, and me. Little old fifteen year old me.
Waited for 15 mins, the shop opened, and we all SURGED in and grabbed books. I have to have a little rant here. I have been to cons, so have a fair few people on my friends list, so you know that us SF geeks are well-behaved, queueing up in an orderly line and all that.
Zealous mothers should be shot. There was one woman who was loudly proclaiming that "My Tommy won't read anything else, you know. I have to get him a copy!" While saying this, she was holding a book and blocking the way. I was quite tired and ratty, so manouvered past her, headphones blaring, and she immediatly turned around and snapped at me, telling me that I was really rude and should have some respect. I would like to point out that I was actually extremly polite, said "excuse me" four or five times and didn't touch her once.
I am rather proud of the fact I didn't bite back with a shout of "Then your Tommy is evidently bloody thick, if he can only manage five books in his entire lifetime!" or telling her to get stuffed.
Paid for book. Came home, and then it hit me that I HAD A COPY OF OOTP. At 8.15, this made me hysterical. Slightly. Made cup of tea, sat down, starting reading.
It's now 11.25, and I've taken a break because I needed to put down my thoughts before I forgot. I'm up page 414, if anyone spoils me past there, I. Will. Kill. Them.
Right, you were WARNED.
Firstly, I spotted a lovely little throwaway line that set my slasher instincts crazy.

Firstly, I spotted a lovely little throwaway line that set my slasher instincts crazy. <Remus has been staying with Sirius,</i> Not in his house, or anything like that, WITH SIRIUS. JK Rowling is being nice, here. Did anyone else pick up on that? I was too scared to look behin cut tags i case of spoilers.
Secondly, this is very sad, but I completely and utterly identifed with "The Trio" in fifth year. Exam stress, snotty first years? Been there, done that! People bitching and rumours? Yup, there too!
Thirdly, this book makes me feel slighlty uncomforatble at times. Umbridge is genuinely scary character, child-abusing wench that she is. There's the uneasiness between everyone, and... yeah. To be honest, I feel really sorry for all the kids who are reading this, because... I dunno. Anyone under about 9 might have trouble dealing with it.
Fourthly, who else shouting "GET IN THERE HARRY!" after the whole Cho thing? I'm quite proudly a Harry/Cho shipper, and it's just... yay!

Oh, fangirlishness. Who doesn't love it?
(And you know what the best part was? I ot a copy of this book for £8.50. Not bad!)
