hathycolWell, I actually did go and see The Sin Eater. First problem- the title. I had no idea what it was called. The internet said The Order, which seemed to be the same film, so off we toddled to Liverpool, where we were informed that there was no film called The Order on. So we tried again said "Sin Eater!" which he also didn't understand. We got tickets by pointing at the advert, in the end. Oiy.
So, in we toddle to see the film. Oh, wow. I didn't actually know what it was about, only that Heath Ledger was in it, the "Lucas Buck Just Killed Merlyn, The Bastard" pose was on the poster and that it invovled a priest. Never was to pass up media that casts the Catholic Church in a bad light, I became keen to see it.
So, what was it actually about? It's about a priest, it's about an arcane order that makes the Jesuits look like panises (for those that don't know, Jesuits are the SAS of the priest world, brought in during the Reformation to pull people back to Catholicism. Bodily.), and it's about some very, very medieval practicies. Oh, and it also has demons, someone who might actualy be a demon but we're not sure and lots of things about the nature of the Catholic Churhc today. I wont spoil it, but I will recommend it. Very, very, very good film- dark, twisted, supernatural whilst remaining firmly fixed on the here and now.
(Also a slight political Catholic reference- the Pope is dying and the successor might be an American. Gasp!)
So, yeah. I enjoyed it.
I have to go and pack a bag for college and sort out my folders in about an hour. Oh, yay. I quite fancy another day off. Maybe I can sleep in my free period...?
