Hey ho hum

It's Sunday. The Day of Rest, and the last Christian ideal I'm hanging onto like grim death. I had a day to do half my history coursework, and then to go on the internet.
My Nan, Dot (my aunt) and her fiance Dave all turned up just as we were sitting down for dinner. To explain a little of the family politics, this particular Nan is my mum's mum, who re-married some bloke called Jim and had Dot. After her parents divoreced, Mum went to live with her Dad. She doesn't get on quite so well with Nan, and they live miles and miles away in Birmingham, therefore don't see her much.
To cut a long and boring story short, I just don't KNOW Nan. Okay, I love her and I hope she loves me, but it's awkward. We just live very different lives. I know I'll sound like a total snob, but my interests lie in things like the internet, books and whatnot. Nan is more normal, to be quite honest. Likes bingo, breeding dogs, etc. Thats the way her family works, and the way my family works is the way it's always been.
I get on quite well with Grandad. He's a lot like Mum, and I think me and Megan both inherited a fair bit of the genepool as far as personality goes. And Grandad remarried a teacher, who I do get on with. It's weird- Nans new husband is just "Jim" but Grandads wife is "Nan". Thats the way it's ALWAYS been, ever since I was very very little. So, going to Grandad (who lives in Worchester) or him coming to our house is good, but a visit to Nan is more a... chore, to be quite honest.
And Nan just turned up... was a very strained hour. She was just dropping in, plus I did actually want to see Dot at some point, cos she's pregnant. (Mum was SO funny when she found out. Nan, Dot and Dave were delighted. Dot is 20, so Mum turned into The Evil Big Sister From Hell. "Haven't you HEARD of protection?" and "Are you going to name is after where it was conceived? Back Seat Of The Car?" My mum is a scary, scary person at times) But still, it was.... odd. And ruined my plans for the day. Sounds horrible, but it's true.
Ah well.
In other news, I perhpas hold the new record for entering and leaving a fandom. For some odd reason, I've had the beginnings of an X-Men fix recently, I think it was seeing the movie brought back memories of getting up at 7.00am to watch the cartoons. Read some fic, was fairly impressed, so checked out official site for X-Men. After spending perhaps 0.2 seconds looking at the artwork, ran away from the fandom screaming. I'm sorry. I just don't get comics, and I don't think I ever will.
I'll still go and watch the new film though- Katie Stuart as Kittie Pryde! WAHEY! She was on the trailer, and I was sitting in the cinema squealing incoherantly about Cassandra. To make things even better, Vaitiare Banderas has a HUGE part in Final Destination, the film I went to see.
Yeehaw.
In other random news, I want a sword. What? You thought I could go a whole post without mentioning LOTR?
In yet more random news, I've found my Prom Dress. It deserves capital letters. Ok, I've yet to see it in any shops. I don't know if it'll suit me. But I WANTS IT! It's soooo pretty, and I'll put money on the fact no one else will have one. Find it here How pretty is THAT? But would I have the neve to pull it off? And where the hell will I be able to buy one?
But if not that, I AM finding a kickass Middle-Earth one. Mum actually agrees with me. And will pay, even better.
Hmmmmm. Am hungry. Will go now, on the good and noble quest to find some toast, to have a shower and to defeat the evil demon of my chemistry coursework. :S Think I should have done it before, but never mind....
