hathycol: (no man!)

This is my first post is 2004. I was going to begin it with 'fuck, I'm tired,' but I felt that a whinge wasn't the best way to continue as I go on, etc.

So, it's been a while since I posted. Well, compared to my usual five a day spammage. This is for a Reason. Went out with Simon yesterday, as said, and I got up too late to do anything else. However, that was a Good Day. Went to see RotK, which I cried so, so much at. I discovered the following things. Firstly , there were eight beacons. There are supposed to be seven! I also spotted the tree in bloom - squee! I can now pinpoint the moment in which I cry. Theoden dying gets me snuffly, but the second Sam says "She had ribbons in her hair..." in that tone of voice like he's finally just realised what he's done, and like he's about to break down... that exact moment. From then on, the tears flow. They briefly slow down for Aragorn's coronation, but not much, and then it's full out sobbing again when Arwen does her little laugh of joy and then it just doesn't stop.

Anyway, we then left the cinema and saw many, many people from school, including Miss Summers, the old RE teacher. Terrifying moment! We then toddled in to Master and Commander. Which rocked. I can't really saw anymore- it was just that. A Really Good Film.

Went to bed and set my alarm for 10.00, so that I could do lots of random posting for New Years Celebrations and get ready to leave. My alarm clock didn't go off. As such, I rolled out of bed at 12.00 and left the house 45 minutes later. Threw myself on the bus and sat there for a deadly boring hour as I made my way to Wigan. It was fecking freezing. Stupid bus. It's going to be cold going to college...

Anyway, I made it to [livejournal.com profile] flickerswitch's and had an absolutely fabulous night, not least because I finally met [livejournal.com profile] mettanna! We sat around, and discussed Abba, Dr Jackson's Diary, LOTR and Stargate. By this point, food and drink had been consumed. I drank probably slightly more than I should, bearing in mind I'm a total lightweight and didn't eat too much.

Suddenly, it was midnight, and we went outside and mumbled Auld Lang Syne in the traditional way. "Ner neeer ner ner ner neer ner ner ner neeer ner AULD LANG SYNE!" Mind you, we did throw in the occasional "You shook me ALL NIGHT LONG!" because we spent far too long discussing that song. And that fic. And then we finally managed to persuade poor [livejournal.com profile] mettanna to drink, and it hit her hard. *pats* We all did lots of silly things, like make balloons and stick them to the wall. And some of the conversations... ouch. Liz forgot to talk properly. So did I, to be quite honest. Anyway, we eventually rolled into bed the floor, with an inflatable mattress that wouldn't inflate and a blanket between [livejournal.com profile] mettanna and I. This made perfect sense at some point, trust me. I repeatedly stole the blanket, and I apologise to Sidg who practically froze to death.

So, I came home. And I'm still really, really tired. I just feel like I've only just woken up. Bear in mind it's now 6.20pm, and I woke up at 12.00.

So, Happy New Year to all! I was very amused by Billy Boyd being the first thing I saw in 2004. A Pippin New Year indeed.

So, a meme, snaffled from [livejournal.com profile] settiai

1. When did you first become a LotR fan?:

When I was twelve. That was... *pauses* 2000. A good year or so before the movies came out. I remember seeing a trailer just after I'd first read the books and I squealed like a girl. My friends thought I was nuts. No change.

2. Have you read the books?:

Do Elves shag in the woods? Dude, which books, anyway? LOTR is a book. Singular. *snarky fangirl mode*

3. Seen the movies?:

Again, do Elves shag in the woods?

4. What is it that you love about LOTR?:

Always been a geek. Always have been, always will be. And the fact that Lord of the Rings was a whole world... it just captured my imagination.

5. How many times did you see each of the movies:

FotR: Three times. Countless on video and extended.

TTT: Three times. Once extended. Countless in normal DVD.

RotK: Three times.

6. Times you've read the books:

Lost count of LOTR and The Hobbit. Silmarillion twice. Unfinished Tales once. Although I do skim the last two for references.

7. Just how obsessed are you with LOTR?:

Distressingly so. I can't describe what a huge part of my life it is.

8. Can you speak Elvish?

No. I'm crap at speaking languages. However, I can understand bits and bobs and give me enough time and I can understand some written Sindarin. I'm quite good at working out a names meaning.

9. Did you dress up for any of the movie premieres:

Dad refused to take me if I did.

10. Most memorable moment as a fan:

Um... probably the fact that Bagenders was what really broke the ice between Liz and I.

11. Favorite of the books:

Lord of the Rings. It is a book. By itself.

12. Favorite of the movies:

Return of the King: Extended Edition. I live in hope for Eowyn/Faramir.

13. Favorite overall character:

Just one? Um. You know what? Legolas. And not just because he has the nicest arse in Elvendom, but I was a fan before I spotted Mr Bloom in his leggings. He's childlike, he's strong, he's loyal, he has the sadness of eternity.

Basically? He's an Elf.

(However, Aragorn and Gimli are at second place because those three always have abd always will be my favourites. Eowyn is third. The twins are the favourite 'fandom' characters.)

14. Character you find most attractive:

Oh, go on. Guess.

15. Favorite couple:

Aragorn/Arwen.

16. Favorite hobbit:

Merry. Or Sam. Or Pippin. Or Bilbo.

(All except for Frodo. I don't know why, I just don't like him. Never have.)

17. Favorite elf:

Legolas!

18. Favorite man:

Aragorn.

19. Favorite dwarf:

Gimli, but Balin is a close second.

20. Favorite wizard:

Radagast. The hippy wizard.

21. Favorite orc:

Shagrat! Rah! Let me feel your Tower, baby!

(Come off it...)

22. Favorite villain:

Witch-King of Angmar. Still scares the pants off me.

23. Favorite horse:

Bill the Pony. Bill for Ringbearer!

24. Favorite scene from the books:

Sam and Gollum- fish and chips.

25. Favorite scene from the movies:

The Beacons being lit. (Even though there's eight, which is wrong!)

26. Coolest creature:

Balrog.

27. Scariest creature:

Despite the fact that Shelob has me cowering under the seat wanting to die, the Nazgul left a lasting impression.

28. Cutest creature:

This is me we're talking about. PONY!

29. Favorite quote:

"And Legolas looked at me, and smiled strangely, and said 'Oft hope is born, when all is forlorn...'" Gimli, RotK

30. Where would you want to live in Middle Earth?:

Imladris. Ithilien. Rohan.

31. What kind of creature would you be?

Elf. Not Noldorian, they're stuck up. Avari and Sylvan are... well, just no. I get sea-sick, so that's Teleri out. (although Teleri is a really pretty word.) And I don't want to be blonde, so that's put Vanyar out. All in all? Methinks Sindar.

32. What's your weapon of choice?:

Broadsword.

33. Are you good/evil/somewhere in between?:

Good. I think.

My, that was a horribly constructed and boring post. I do apologise.
