When Richie came home last night, he enquired how my back was.

"Er," I said. "Fine? Arm a bit painful though..."

He looked at it, exclaimed a bit, and then shoved ice cubes on me. Richie, it's worth pointing out, passed his first aid exams on Friday so I think deep down was quite pleased to use his training, and was suitably horrifed when I mentioned that my work does does not have a first aid kit, first aider, or accident book. And then was really horrified when I admitted that yes, the stairs have a bannister, no I chose not to use it, yes, this was entirely my fault and also THIS IS GETTING MORE PAINFUL.

We ate. I ate about half of my meal and then requested that we call a taxi as I would like some medical attention.

I have never been to Southport A+E, although my mum always talks about it darkly, as her entire experiences there involve her own gallstones or when she has to go and assess people with mental health issues. It is, unsurprisingly, no fun at all. I was triaged pretty quickly, at which point the painkillers I'd taken in work had worn off and I was really beginning to feel some bad pain. The nurse put me in a sling, and said I couldn't have any painkillers yet. I accepted it, and went to sit back down and wait for a doctor.

About two hours later, I got to enjoy the unique experience of crying in pain in A+E, which is about as much fun as it sounds. Even the lady who came in with two police officers probably thought I was pathetic. I have to give props to Richie, who did very quiet impressions of Stupid Death in order to make me laugh and generally put up with my whinging.

Anyway, I was seen eventually and can announce that I am not broken which is a massive relief but at the same time I feel really stupid at it hurting this much! I have bruised a nerve that I kept on hearing as my uhura nerve, which is clearly silly. They'd given me drugs by then, so I was just a bit melty. Googling informs me that it's my ulnar nerve that I've bruised. Either way, ow.

I have taken today off work and crawled back into bed and stayed there for about four hours, which was a much needed relief. Arm still very painful (typing takes a very, very long time with only my right arm) but luckily did get some shiny drugs from the doctor. Which I am about to ake some more of, and then attempt to shower. Actually perhaps shower first, and thus far drugs have just made me sleepy.

I am so pathetic.

(Also, daytime TV? YOU ARE NOT THAT GOOD ANYMORE.)
