Jun. 14th, 2004 10:02 amI have all sorts of things I could be doing. I could be out in Liverpool. I could be asleep, the current preference. I could be out with Andrew, watching Harry Potter.
Instead, I'm cleaning the house because the only time they can fit me into the dentists in 3 o clock, but I had to go in person to get aforementioned appointment at nine o clock in the morning.
So now I am going to go and clean out of a lack of anything to do. The only thing keeping me sane is the most delicious plot bunny suggested by someone on OSA: Hey, I´m a PEF (Pervy Elf Fancier) and a PEF (Pervy Eowyn Fancier)! Combine the two and I´m in heaven! Give me Eowyn sandwiched between two elves (the Twinkies, maybe?) and I´m a happy woman!
I swear to god, it really was someone else who wrote that. Someone who is probably my soulmate, mind...
Lalalala. Maybe do some writing. *pervy*
So, the European elections. They sucked. Turnout wasn't nearly large enough, for a start. The Tories won, and that was what Labour needed to actually get their lazy act together. UKIP, however, need beating down with a stick. I know that some people choose them out of a genuine reason and concern, but Eurosceptics make me angry. We should leave, eh? How mad is that? Stupid, stupid idea! We can make a real difference there, and Europe is doing us good! Would you rather be isolated and alone? Would you rather have no human rights act? No official health and safety? No equality, going back to the days where women and any non-whites were paid less? Bullshit! We're not going out and supporting the new ten memebr states, you know. They get buggar all ecomonic aid until they can start helping us. UKIP are pretty quiet on that. There is a lot of money going into the EU - I agree. There is a lot of wasted beurocracy - I don't agree. The Commission as a civil service is actually rather small. Democratic deficiency - yes. Get it sorted. I totally and utterly agree. But to leave? Christ...
Do you want a man who is blatently racist as the leader of your party? And Joan Collins? There's no education in this country, though. You don't get taught anything in school - I'm sure I was supposed to have citizenship lessons, which are a good idea if they're taught right.
Awful, awful election. Only two Green MEPs! Dreadful. None in the North-West, either, which is a shame.
What's more embarrassing is that Kilroy used to know my Grandad, back from the days when Kilroy was the MP for Ormskirk. Really and truly. According to Dad, they'd get sent a box of Westminister Mints every Christmas. It's quite cool in a "Jesus, look what's happened now..." type of thing. I'm not sure who instills more fear - Kilroy or Michael Howard...
I'll stop ranting now. Kudos to those who did vote UKIP - I'm looking at you,
nerd_king. In your defence, you are in fact electorally aware as opposed to the vast majority of stupid buggars who voted for them.
Bleurgh. Am done now.
(My mood icons confuse me. I'm not sure what a devious penguin will end up looking like!)

Date: 2004-06-14 10:26 am (UTC)It really pisses me off. Just because Europe takes money from
the governmentLondon and gives it to places that need it like Liverpool they think it's a waste of money! No equality, going back to the days where women and any non-whites were paid less?
Women still get paid less in a lot of professions.
Grrr.

Date: 2004-06-14 05:03 pm (UTC)No, it's a good idea. If you read what the euro-councils were suggesting you would agree. The problem is, it's too easy to think "anti-europe? they must be some kind of nazi!!" instead of thinking about it from a more logical point of view, -once you know all the facts.
Fact: UK exports more to the EU than any EU country.
Fact: Europe mkes up only 15% of uk export sales.
Fact: Europe now dictates where our fishermen can fish, and how much we have to give to EU farmers.
I say screw it. We can make more money without. Closer ties to the UN? - Yes.
Closer ties to the EU? - No.
