Scythes, birthdays and Blue Moons
Jul. 23rd, 2004 07:52 pmToday is El Sister’s birthday. In a flash of insight, I brought her a t-shirt, red thingy with the little sleeves poking out. She’s turning into a sk8er girl, which admittingly makes me want to throw something at her, but I can’t halt progress. What’s more depressing is that I brought her a size eight and it’s incredibly baggy on her. Stupid thin sister.
Moving on, I also had a very weird dream last night, one of those that are really consistent. I like those dreams, because it means you remember them, but it always makes me feel a little unsettled, as it always appears to be very realistic. It involved Homebase, Lucy Westerna and Dracula. *shrugs* Hope I have it again, as the neighbours rudely interrupted it and meant I didn’t see the end.
I had to get up fairly early this morning as I had signed up for voluntary work at Scarisbrick with the Brambles Of Doom. It was surprisingly fun and we got a lot done; only the ones who had done it last time (+ another twin) but we had something verging on a method. Arms are cut and scratched into nothingness once more, though. Slightly more worryingly, we’ve volunteered to go back next week. I think we gave the leader a heart attack.
I read Sabriel last night and I think I’m in love. It’s so wonderful! Very much like Northern Lights in places for the sense of realism. Particularly in the way that Ancelstierre is like wartime Britain. I LOVED the images of the Old Kingdom being separated, too... and zombies! One of those books that cannot be a kiddie book, because it has sex and necromancy (fortunately not at the same time) and it’s really, really quite scary. Go and read it, one and all; I really want the sequel. Now. Lirael, it’s called. And why yes, it is my birthday in a few weeks…
Parents are still scurrying around in preparation for tomorrow. Personally, I can wait for them to leave. I will miss their actual departure, as I have an appointment to see about contact lenses at 11.20, come home, clean like a demon as everyone will be kipping in the living room (except for Joshua; if he doesn’t like the idea of being in a room with 6 odd teenage girls, he’s more than welcome to the pullout bed) and then go out again to try and find my mobile at Emmeline’s. After that, hasty LJ update.. or not. In case it never arises, I should say the following now to all Blue Moon peeps:
1. HannahandEnid at Ormskirk at 5.30. So Hannah knows, the train takes 40 minutes, go from platform one on the Northern line.
2. Iona + Nupur + Josh at my house at 6.00. I think I gave all the instructions…
3. Clare, see above, Ormskirk at 7.00. I have a cunning plan; we all troop to pick up Clare and go via the takeaway of choice. Genius, no?
Usual routine of chocolate and alcohol, etc.
I’m looking forward to this now…

Date: 2004-07-23 01:09 pm (UTC)Also if the train journeys only 40 minutes, I might be there a little earlier. I'll phone, if you hear nothing assume 7 o'clock at Ormskirk as planned.

Date: 2004-07-24 10:38 am (UTC)I've read the Nix trilogy, definitely one of my favourite sets of books of all time. Lirael and Abhorsen are just as amazing, and longer as well, which is better for me- I just couldn't put them down!
Well, that's me saying hello, so now I'll say goodbye!
